Castleconnell Boat Club was established in 1983 and is located on the river Shannon and stretches from the weir at the World's End all the way to O'Briensbridge.

A very warm welcome to everyone joining us for CCBC Head of the River 2026, our annual 3km time-trial through the beautiful waters of Castleconnell.

🚣 3km time-trial | O’Brien’s Bridge to World’s End
⏰ Racing starts at 9:00 AM
We welcome all categories, from juniors to masters. Crews will race one at a time against the clock, where sharp steering, strong rowing and smart lines make all the difference.
🔥 BULLS & BEARS
The fastest eight pairs take on the invitation-only challenge, followed by an exciting 500m sprint in front of the clubhouse! ⚡️🐂🐻⚡️
☕ Hot food and tea available at the clubhouse.
👀 Spectators welcome – free entry!
⚠️ Road access is restricted, so please follow event guidance and instructions from our marshals.

The worlds End is calling!
Join us for CCBC Head of the River 2026 — our annual 3km time-trial through the waters of Castleconnell.

📣 Calling all future coxswains 📣 Castleconnell Boat Club is looking to recruit new coxes at all levels, from complete novices (in which case we’ll teach you) to those who have experience of coxing at a top level.
Can you inspire rowers to work that little bit harder? Can you steer the best course? In which case you’re the race cox we want.
You can be the difference between winning and losing.
If you are aged 14 - 90, small in stature, but large in confidence, then you could be a cox!

A very special evening at Castleconnell Boat Club

On Monday, September 14th, we were delighted to welcome Minister Patrick O’Donovan to Castleconnell Boat Club for a boat naming ceremony.
Six new boats were officially named in honour of six people who have made a lasting contribution to our club and our community:

🚣 Jimmy O’Neill
🚣 Owen Silke
🚣 John Murphy
🚣 Joe Dundon

It was a wonderful evening celebrating not just six new boats, but the generations of people who have helped make Castleconnell Boat Club what it is today.

We were delighted to be joined by Senator Mary Byrne, Senator Dee Ryan, Fr Willie Teehan, Club President Roisin Hartigan, along with so many current and former members, athletes, coaches, families, volunteers and friends of the club.

Since our foundation in 1983, Castleconnell Boat Club has helped more than 50 athletes represent Ireland internationally, including five Paralympians. Achievements like these are only possible because of the extraordinary commitment of the people behind the scenes who give their time to the club year after year.

These six boats will honour those who helped build our past while inspiring the athletes who will shape our future.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening so special.

📣❤️ A BIG shout-out to our amazing camp coaches & assistants! ❤️📣
Our Learn to Row Summer Camps at the World’s End had a fantastic turnout, with new rowers joining us each week to learn, have fun and get out on the water.
A huge thank you to Coach Eva Hanley, who brought energy, enthusiasm and plenty of fun to every camp! 🙌
Eva was supported each week by brilliant senior coaches and, importantly, our fantastic Junior Coaches, who volunteered their time and energy to help make the camps such a success. 👏
It’s brilliant to see our Junior Coaches getting involved in the Rowing Ireland coaching workshops, developing their skills and gaining valuable experience along the way.
🌟 Our coaching pathway is well and truly getting started! 🌟
Seeing our young rowers now becoming coaches and role models for the next generation is something really special.
A massive thank you to everyone who gave their time, energy and enthusiasm this summer. You’ve helped make it a summer to remember!

The evening ran brilliantly thanks to our wonderful MC, Emily Ross, who kept everything flowing and ensured the night was filled with plenty of laughter and great memories! 🎤✨
A huge thank you to Castle Oaks Hotel for hosting us and helping make the evening so special. ❤️
And a special thank you to the incredibly talented harpist Fiana Ní Chonaill for providing such beautiful music, and to MR DJ DAN for keeping the celebrations going and the dance floor full! 🎶🕺💃🪉
And finally, thank you to Rory Corbett for bringing it all together for everyone to enjoy and celebrate, what was a fantastic evening for our club.
