Following our previous post, it appears there has been some confusion and misunderstanding regarding our comments, so we would like to clarify our position.

We have absolutely no issue with another boxing gym opening in the area, and we have communicated this directly to those involved in the past. Our original post was intended to highlight the proud history of Llay Boxing Club, our achievements, and our commitment to developing future boxing talent.

However, we do have concerns about the use of a name that is so similar to our own, as this has already caused confusion. It is difficult to understand why the same name was chosen, particularly when the owners previously trained and boxed at our gym for several years.

As we have stated before, we genuinely wish them every success in their new venture and have no objection to another boxing club operating within the village.

What we do not appreciate, however, is being described as rude in relation to our concerns about the name. We are more than happy to share our correspondence and responses, which clearly demonstrate that our concerns have never been about another boxing club opening, but rather about the confusion caused by the similarity in names.

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT 🥊

There seems to be some confusion regarding boxing clubs in Llay, so we’d like to clarify a few facts.

Llay Boxing Club (Llay ABC) is the original volunteer-led boxing club in the village. Historical records and photographs show the club’s existence as early as 1960, and evidence suggests it may have been established even earlier.

We are a community-interest, non-profit club run entirely for the benefit of our members and the local community.

We are proud to have:
✅ DBS-checked coaches
✅ A dedicated Child Welfare Officer
✅ First Aid trained staff
✅ A committee-run structure
✅ Fully qualified boxing coaches
✅ Affiliation with the Welsh Amateur Boxing Association (WABA) – the only club in the village affiliated with the governing body

Over the years, Llay ABC has provided opportunities for boxers of all ages and abilities, helping athletes achieve success at the highest levels of the sport.

What we can do for you;

🏅 Compete at the Commonwealth
🏅Compete a world championships
🇬🇧 Box for Team GB/ Olympics

Our focus remains the same as it always has been: providing a safe, inclusive, community-based boxing club where local people can develop confidence, fitness, discipline, and achieve their full potential in the sport.
