George On The Up & Up!🏆
There’s been a long tradition over the years at Wigan RUFC of our senior and junior players also excelling in other sports.
And whilst it has usually been in the traditional alternatives of rugby league, football, cricket, golf, athletics and wrestling, one of our current dual-sport superstars is achieving great heights by way of a trampoline!
George Butler, who’s been playing at the club since the age of six, will be turning out for our Senior Colts next season as a strong running wing, centre or fullback🏉 Meanwhile, he’s currently ranked in the top five for his age in the world in the sport of trampolining and is on the pathway towards a place in the British Olympic Team🇬🇧
So far this year, George has competed in the English and British qualifiers, winning both, and attaining a Personal Best score that has surpassed any score achieved by a sixteen year old in the past decade🥇
George will be heading to Switzerland for the Nissan Cup in June, then competing in the English Championships in July – with the aim of making it through to the World Championships in November, in China.
Understandably, we’re all immensely proud of George, and we’ll all be cheering him along all the way!
And sporting achievement seems to be a theme in the Butler family as his older brother Nathan is our speedy first team winger and full back, his sister Josie is making a name for herself with the Wigan Rugby League Academy, and youngest of the family Lois has recently started her rugby journey within the ranks of our Wigan RUFC minis⚪️⚫️
Even dad, Lee, who has coached at the club for fifteen years and is currently a coach for both the Wigan 1st XV and Senior Colts, has dusted off his boots, taped and bandaged up every possible joint, applied emollients and pain numbing creams, and turned out for all three of our senior teams at Douglas Valley over the past couple of seasons👏🏻
They’re one of the amazing families we have entwined in the fabric of Wigan RUFC that have helped build the club’s success over recent years and help maintain its position as a vital community asset within in the heart of the Wigan Borough.
