Wigan St Pats U13s 10–4 Hindpool Tigers U13s
The second half of the season got underway today, and Wigan St Pats U13s couldn’t have asked for a better way to start it, coming away with a hard-earned 10–4 victory over Hindpool Tigers.
But today was about so much more than the final score.
From the opening whistle, the lads showed exactly what they’ve been working so hard on in training. Their communication was outstanding, their defensive effort was relentless and, with ball in hand, they weren’t afraid to play rugby — supporting one another, looking for the offload and working hard for every opportunity.
What stood out more than anything was the way they turned up for each other.
When the game became difficult and things didn’t always seem to go their way, they could easily have become frustrated and let their heads drop. Instead, they stayed together, kept their focus and continued doing the job they had come to do.
Every single lad played his part.
There were big tackles, brilliant defensive efforts, some fantastic offloads and plenty of moments where you could see just how far this group has come.
Hindpool Tigers certainly made them work for it and kept battling, but St Pats showed real determination and togetherness to see the game through and secure the 10–4 victory.
As proud as we were of their rugby today, what happened after the game meant just as much
Our lads were complimented by both parents and coaches on just how polite, respectful and well-mannered they were.
We were told they had never met a nicer bunch of lads.
Even after a tough, physical game, our lads were taking the time to speak to the opposition players, showing them respect and chatting with lads they had never met before.
Because we’re not only here to help them become better rugby players. We want to see them grow into good young men who understand respect, sportsmanship and what it means to represent their team and their club properly.
Today they did exactly that.
Parents, you should be incredibly proud tonight. Not only of the rugby your lads played, but of the young men they are becoming. 💚
And lads, we hope you understand just how proud you made us today.
You represented Wigan St Pats, your families, your coaches and, most importantly, yourselves brilliantly.
You won the game 10–4, but the compliments we received about your character afterwards meant more than any points on a scoreboard ever could.
