After our first team win yesterday, we wanted to reflect on our second team game and the importance of yesterday:
Cricket really is the ultimate family and community sport.
Yesterday we had an age gap of 64 years from our oldest to youngest playing together in the same team, from three U13 players in Nathan, Josh and Matthew (both making their senior debut) right through to Mike, still going strong at 76, and Tom making his cricketing debut, proving that Goose Green provides an environment so that cricket is a game for everyone, regardless of age or experience.
The youngsters certainly made their mark, with Nathan picking up 10 runs and a wicket, Matthew a wicket and Josh taking 2 catches one from his own brothers bowling. But one of the best stories of the day came from Tom who had never played cricket before, stepping up and scoring a brilliant 9 runs on debut! I think he might have got the bug ๐
Days like this remind us what amateur club cricket is all about, bringing people together, creating memories, and giving everyone the chance to be part of the beautiful game.
From first timers to lifelong cricketers, from juniors to grandparents, cricket truly is a sport for all generations. It might not have been the result we wanted, losing by six wickets, but there is always so much more to winning that makes the game we love so special ๐๐
If youโd be interested in playing for Goose Green, regardless of experience, reach out to us, weโd love to hear from you! ๐
