Did you know that a dirty chain can wear out your gears and drivetrain much faster than normal?

Keeping your chain clean and properly lubricated helps:
✅ Improve gear shifting
✅ Reduce wear on expensive components
✅ Make pedalling smoother
✅ Extend the life of your bike

A quick clean and re-lube every few rides can save you money in the long run and keep your bike running like new.

🚲 NEW WEEK, NEW RIDES, NEW GOALS

A new week is here, and whether you're commuting, training, exploring local trails or simply enjoying a ride with family and friends, make sure your bike is ready for the miles ahead.

Last week was another busy one in the workshop with everything from full services and tune-ups to tyre replacements, brake bleeding and general repairs. It's always great to see bikes leaving the shop running smoother, safer and ready to ride.

If your bike has been:
⚠️ Making unusual noises
⚠️ Struggling to change gear smoothly
⚠️ Feeling sluggish or rough
⚠️ Not braking as well as it should

Don't ignore the signs. Small issues are usually much quicker and cheaper to fix when caught early.

This Sunday, we're proud to be supporting our sponsored rider, Callum Paddock, as he takes on the Tour de Midlands 40-Mile Cycle Challenge!

Starting and finishing at Alexander Stadium, Callum will be cycling 40 miles across the West Midlands, visiting some of the region's most iconic sporting venues including Villa Park, St Andrew's at Knighthead Park, Molineux Stadium, The Hawthorns and Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium.

🚴‍♂️ We're Back Open as Normal! 🚴‍♀️

Just a quick update to let everyone know that Russell Cycles is now back open for our normal business hours.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we were closed. We look forward to welcoming all our customers back for bike sales, servicing, repairs, accessories, and everything cycling-related.

🔧🚴 FIX IT FRIDAY 🚴🔧

Another busy week in the workshop at Russell Cycles — just how we like it! 👌

This bike came into the workshop requiring extensive drivetrain and bearing repairs after a number of components had become heavily worn and seized.

🛠 Work carried out:
✅ Removed heavily siezed bottom bracket and replaced with new sealed unit
✅ Replaced worn chain
✅ Replaced rear cog
✅ Stripped and cleaned rear hub assembly
✅ Fitted new rear derailleur
✅ Installed new gear cables and shifters
✅ Carried out rear brake bleed

The bike is now running smoothly again and ready to get back out on the road 🚴💨

Regular maintenance helps prevent costly repairs and keeps your bike performing safely and reliably. If your bike isn’t feeling quite right, bring it into the workshop and we’ll be happy to help.

💡 BIKE TIP TUESDAY

Wash your bike regularly — but avoid pressure washing 🚲

Using high-pressure water can force dirt and moisture into bearings and other sensitive components, leading to premature wear over time.

Instead: 🧼 Use warm water and bike cleaner for the frame and non-mechanical parts
⚙️ Use degreaser on mechanical components like the drivetrain, chain and cassette
🧽 Finish with fresh lubricant on the chain once dry

Keeping your bike clean not only keeps it looking good, but also helps it run smoother and last longer.

We also offer full bike servicing, which includes a thorough clean to get your bike looking and feeling its best again 👌
