Please read.
The response to The People’s Club has been absolutely overwhelming. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU.
I wanted to take a moment to explain a little more about why I wrote this show and what it means to me.
Rangers has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. From being taken to Ibrox as a wee girl, to now taking my own son, I’ve seen first hand how much this football club means to generations of families.
That’s why I wrote The People’s Club.
It’s not my story. It’s a fictional family’s story, but one I hope Rangers supporters will recognise as their own. It’s about our grandparents, our parents, our children, the memories we make, the people we lose and the traditions we carry on.
Although the family in the show are fictional, the characters are named after members of my own family who are sadly no longer with us. My Papa Jim, Granny Mary, Uncle Gavin, Uncle Stuart and Uncle Andrew. People who were part of my life and my family’s story, whose names and memories I wanted to carry forward in something special.
Since July, I’ve spent countless hours writing, planning, organising and building this production from the ground up. Every idea, every page of the script, every meeting, every phone call and every decision has come from my determination. I’ve worked incredibly hard and this show is another chapter of that. I’m my own woman. I’m independent, I’m determined, and I’ve never needed anyone to hold my hand to chase something I believe in.
Of course, my parents and my son are my biggest supporters, and I’m incredibly lucky to have them. But I am also immensely proud to say that The People’s Club is something I created and built myself. My production company, named after my son, Oliver. My whole world and my biggest reason for everything I do. Everything I’m doing today is something I hope he can be proud of tomorrow.
For the wee girl who spent her childhood in theatre school, dreaming of being on stage, the thought that I’ve now written my very own production, which will be performed in one of Glasgow’s most iconic theatres, is honestly a dream come true. And perhaps that’s what makes this whole project even more special. A show about family, generations and leaving something behind for those who come after us.
There’s still a long road ahead until that curtain rises at the Pavilion Theatre, but I cannot wait to see it all come to life.
