As a team, and as parents who invest significant time, effort, and financial commitment into supporting young riders in motorcycle racing, we feel it is important to make a statement based on the facts surrounding the events of this weekend.
Following the meeting, our rider was informed that she had been disqualified from the championship standings and had all of her points removed due to the use of an aftermarket throttle.
The motorcycle in question is the same machine that successfully passed scrutineering for Moto 1 last season, as well as every previous round of this season. There had never been any issue raised regarding the throttle, including during events where Paige achieved podium finishes.
The bike passed scrutineering yesterday morning without any concerns being raised.
Prior to qualifying, several motorcycles, including ours, had their throttles checked in the holding area by the Chief Scrutineer. At no stage were we informed that there was any issue with our motorcycle or that it was not compliant with regulations.
After qualifying, an announcement was made over the tannoy requesting the parents of two other riders to report to Race Control. Those riders and their families were informed of an issue with their throttles being after market throttles and were given a choice: race and face disqualification, or withdraw and retain their championship points.
At this point, no concern had been raised with us. Our rider was not offered the same opportunity, nor were we given the chance to rectify the issue. Had it been brought to our attention during any of the inspections throughout the season, during morning scrutineering, or during the throttle checks conducted before qualifying, we could have easily replaced the throttle.
Paige was allowed to compete in Race 1 and delivered an outstanding performance, taking victory for the Boss-E Team. The race featured an incredible battle for the lead, with positions changing multiple times throughout the circuit and providing spectators with some of the most exciting racing of the day.
As a newcomer to these circuits, competing against riders with significantly more track experience, Paige demonstrated exceptional skill, determination, and racecraft. Her fastest lap of 1:08.38 helped secure victory by just 0.17 seconds at the finish line, while opening an 11-second gap to the third-place rider.
Paige then competed in Race 2. The Chief Scrutineer again walked through the holding area prior to the race, and no concerns were raised regarding our motorcycle. Paige went on to secure another podium finish with second place, recording a new personal best lap time of 1:08.33. Once again, she was involved in a close, competitive, and respectful battle at the front of the field.
It was only after Race 2, as she returned to the pits, that our rider was stopped by the Chief Scrutineer and informed that she had been disqualified because the throttle fitted to the motorcycle was an aftermarket component.
We have since taken this matter forward with the relevant officials to understand why our rider was not afforded the same opportunity that was offered to others, allowing them to protect their championship points.
The overwhelming support we have received from fellow riders, families of the paddock since the event has been greatly appreciated.
Those who witnessed yesterday’s racing understands that Paige's performances were the result of her dedication, skill, talent, and racecraft, NOT the result of 90 degree throttle twist!
While we are naturally disappointed by the outcome, we remain incredibly proud of what Paige achieved on track this weekend. Her performances spoke for themselves. This setback will not define her. She will return stronger and more determined than ever.
We've said it before and we'll say it again: she's not here simply to take part she's here to take over and she sure is doing that, she’s certainly ruffling feathers!
Thank you to everyone who continues to support Paige on her achievements regardless of yesterday events.
While we know that people will want to express their views on how yesterday’s events were handled we would ask you to refrain from doing so, as we stated we have taken the matter further and it will be reviewed by the relevant bodies if you wish to comment please make this relevant to Paige and her performance on track only! 🩷🏍️💨
