SELKIRK VICTORIA SEASON REVIEW

I won't dwell too much on the summary of the season, it's been well documented how bad it was for us and how close to going under we were and tbh that's just depressing so fast forward to last game of the year and our 1st win since March a great end to the year from he'll.

By this time we had an almost new squad from what started pre season and had 2 co managers after Ian left and then returned to help me out.

The new year saw a more energetic more combative and safe to say more competitive VICS side unfortunately although scors lines improved the results never came with the performances our highlight co ing in a 5-0 home victory over the WAV.

As for a cup run we never turned up for 2 ties and in another 2 we were drawn against ttweeddale who had an incredible return to A division only bettered by champs Duns, and serial winners of everything LANGLEE so our hopes of a cup run were slim haha.

Regardless there is a real buzz crept in around Yarrow Park coming from the players and things look positive.

So yeah football wise my last year involved on the grass was grim almost as bad as my beloved spurs 🙏🤞🤞 but off the park we have finally got a proper committee after years of struggle, we seem to have the backing of the town shown through the generosity of sponsors and donations that mean so much and are all helping progress the club and give us solid foundations.

Since my debut in 1988 (with a couple years off here n there) right through till now I've seen some ups and downs, some right good teams and some not so good haha but it's been fantastic even having to play 12 mins at the age of 50 earlier this season, and the struggles to keep us afloat, I've loved it and met some great people too at the vics and other clubs around the borders but I'm old n knacked and it's time to go.

So I'm handing over the reigns to Craig and Ian absolutely positive they are the dream team for my Vics and 100% trust they will give us all something to celebrate this time next year.

Thanks to everyone that supported me and the boys over this season the sponsors, the fans the girls on the canteen jonny and briefly mark too and of course the committee and Ian, I wudnt have coped with out you returning 😂 It wasn't great but it's been the start of something new. I look forward to becoming a fan SVFC 💙❤️

SELKIRK VICTORIA RACE NIGHT AND PRESENTATION

We held our annual night at Selkirk Rugby Club on Friday past and it turned out to be a huge success. We started with the race night which was amazingly supported by so many of you buying horses, (we had 31 races sold 🫡)for this we thank you very much 🙏. And to the Race sponsors, again it's so much appreciated 🙏. Our last 2 races were auctioned off expertly and very entertainingly by young Oliver McClymont and he certainly delivered, especially on the last race that was dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the VICS unbeaten league campaign with the horses being named after players from the team, won by Mungo McShane. The race night was a huge success and has again enabled us to fund our fees for entering the league etc. Half way through the race night we stopped for food and presentations. They went as follows....

Mallet Cup(goal of the season) - Finlay Wheelans 👏👏
Top scorer - Ryan Prentice👏👏
Young player - Josh Turner 👏👏
Players Player and Managers Player - Kyle Adamson 👏👏
Long service/retirement - Davie Deans👏👏

Chairman George Purves also said a few words of thanks to departing co manager Chris Silverstein for his efforts over the years.

It wasn't a great season results wise but we still had reason to celebrate even just the fact we made it through the season and I think it's fair to say everyone in attendance had a good night.

Thanks again to all those that made it possible whether buying horses or sponsoring races or the bar staff for keeping everyone refreshed. I don't have a final number at present but it looks like we cleared £2000 so it really made a difference. The generosity of you all especially the auctions races was quite phenomenal.

From us all the Vics thank you so much and we hope to see you all at Yarrow Park next season as we look to kick start a new era at the club on and off the park ⚽️💙SVFC
