2026 baby?! 🤐 🤞 🍀 An opportunity too good to turn down.
I’ve been reluctant to post about this as I’m so conscious that there’s a very long way to go and never any guarantees where breeding is concerned. It’s already been an eye opening experience to get to this point and it’s still very early days!
That said, it’s incredibly exciting and I’m extremely grateful to have been given the opportunity to loan Herzi as a broodmare from Juulia.
I’ve known Herzi for a number of years as she’s been a livery on my yard with Gabbie (who I also can’t thank enough for suggesting the idea) and it’s really nice that I was able to ride her a number of times when she was still in work. She was the most beautiful mare to ride who just floated around - so light on her feet.
When she retired she went out to grass initially but then came back to me to winter in my barn with my then 2yr old Beau whilst she was carrying this years foal, who I now also have here at home on Gabbie’s behalf. It’s been a steep learning curve about the whole journey of looking after a mare in foal and then a mare with a foal at foot and more recently, the weaning process.
Herzi previously evented to Intermediate level successfully and is a grade 1 Oldenburg broodmare sired by the renowned Heraldik. She already has a few offspring on the ground who are looking exciting prospects, one of which I was lucky enough to have a sit on this summer (pictured).
I have put her to Diarado (sire of JL Dublin amongst MANY other very good horses!) in the hope of breeding a top level event prospect for the future but we all know a bit (a lot!) of luck is needed along the way! First of all, let’s hope we have a healthy foal born next summer! 🤞🤞🤞
Exciting times! (And praying putting this ‘out there’ doesn’t jinx it all! 🙈)
