Another superb squad today, mainly attended by our senior grades. Focus today was embedding new competition kata and refining the finer points, as ever it’s all in the technique and detail, this being reinforced by Bunkai application.
In the kumite section we worked on fight phasing and how to be an “attacking” fighter. Finished off with some tactical fighting drills for the “if” elements of kumite
Everyone trained really hard, pushing performance for the next round of competitions. 🥋
We also welcomed back our medal winners from the AMA comp last weekend.

But even more important, a happy, harmonious and positive atmosphere where our students can enjoy all aspects of karate, whatever their individual motivation or goal from getting through their kata , learning to kick ,defending themselves or achieving a gold medal.

We are passionate about traditional karate, doing it right, emphasis on basics and the meaning of each move via bunkai or kumite.
We do it because we want to, not because we need to.

We have a great team around us.

Another fantastic day for our team at the AMA Championships! 🥋🏅

A huge congratulations to:

Clare Challinor – GOLD Kata🥇
Thea Heys – GOLD Kumite 🥇
Harry Bull – BRONZE Kumite 🥉

We are incredibly proud of all our competitors. The progress being made is outstanding and was evident throughout the day. Numerous people commented on the improvement, confidence, and technical ability of our students, which is a testament to the hard work and dedication they put into their training week after week.

A special mention must also go to Milly and Stanley, who both stepped onto the competition tatami for the very first time. Competing takes courage, and you both did yourselves proud. 💪

Medals are fantastic, but seeing our students grow in confidence, skill, and character is what makes us proudest as coaches.

Well done everyone – the future of our association is looking very bright! 👊🔥

Months and years of hard work, discipline and dedication all came together today and we couldn’t be prouder of every student who stepped on the floor.

Dan grading is about more than technique it’s about perseverance, spirit, resilience and earning every step of the journey. Today you all showed exactly what SSGB represents. 🇬🇧🔥

Another fantastic SSGB squad session today 👊🇬🇧
A great day of training with students and instructors all working hard to raise standards together. Today’s focus was on cleaning and refining our new kata, breaking down the finer details, timing and application, alongside sharpening our kumite techniques and movement.
It’s great to see the team continually pushing themselves, supporting each other and growing stronger every session. The future of SSGB is looking strong 💥🥋

What a day for SSGB! 🥋🔥

A full 2-hour squad session followed by a 2-hour grading all in one day – and every single student gave it everything they had. The effort, attitude and determination shown throughout the day was amazing to see.

With around 30 students through the doors between squad training and grading, it was fantastic to see so much support, hard work and team spirit across the club. Days like this show just how much SSGB is growing and how strong our future is looking.
