That's the 2026 league season done ๐Ÿ˜ข

Rain wiped out almost the entire final weekend, with only two fixtures across all twelve divisions reaching a result. The 1st XI were in one of them and won it by a single wicket, taking 20 points... one short of the 21 needed for promotion.

Across the club it's been a much stronger year, with no side finishing lower than sixth. The 1s, 4s and 6s both took third, the 2s and 5s fourth, and the 3s sixth.

The round-up also covers the season stats: Terry Martin's 654 runs the biggest tally at the club across all XIs, Andrew Barker leading the higher teams on 577, Sam Verrinder finishing 11 wickets clear of the field on 36, and Shane McDonagh taking 27 at 14.74.

Plus the Fantasy League results: Chloe Martin takes the title and ยฃ100, with Alan Brown second and Trevor Nunn third.

End of league season stats for our lower teams, playing in divisions 10 through 12 ๐Ÿ‘€

Shane McDonagh finishes top with 27 wickets from 90 overs at 14.7, five clear of the field, with best figures of 5/35 ๐Ÿ”ฅ Josh Rockenbach takes second on 22 at an average of 12.2 and an economy of 3.1, the tightest on the board. Thomas Barker matches that average with 21 wickets from just 66.1 overs, including a 5/21.

With the bat, Terry Martin produced the standout season of the summer: 654 runs at 43.6 with a top score of 129, nearly 200 clear of anyone else. Duncan Baldwin follows on 458 and Dave Turner completes the top three with 424. Jake Deacon posted the best average on the list, 45.7 from only eight innings ๐Ÿ

Two names appear on both boards ๐Ÿ‘€ John Wright made 372 at a strike rate of 104 and took 14 wickets at 12.4, and Ben James contributed 225 runs alongside 20 wickets. Proper all-round seasons.

Congratulations to everyone who made the list ๐Ÿ˜Ž

The runs and the wickets that shaped the 2026 campaign for our top three sides ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Andrew Barker tops the batting with 577 at an average of 52.5, the only player in the club to pass 500 for the season. Ben Francis follows on 490, and his unbeaten 168 is the highest individual score for the year. Sam Keene rounds out the top three with 474.

Special mention to James Balkwill, who racked up 415 from just nine innings, and to Jess Walker, whose strike rate of 132.6 was the quickest in the top ten.

With the ball, Sam Verrinder finished in a class of his own: 36 wickets from 149 overs at 16.0, eleven clear of the chasing pack, with the best economy rate on the board at 3.9 and figures of 5/15. Danny Frost and Mihir Patel share second place on 25 apiece.

A message from Kat Mayfield โœ’๏ธ

You know me from the cricket pitch, but there's a side to my story you might not know. For a long time I felt like I was speaking a different language to everyone else, and I struggled to find where I fit. That's exactly what inspired my new young adult novel, The Impossible Language.

It follows Megan through sixth form - exhausted, overwhelmed, misunderstood, with only her journals for sanctuary. From the outside she looks perfectly fine. Inside, she's fighting a battle she has no name for. Until someone gives her one word that explains everything: autism.

You might have a picture in your head of what autism looks like. Megan's may look a little different.

It's a coming-of-age story about finding your voice in a loud world and the life-changing impact of finally understanding your own mind.

The book isn't about cricket (maybe next time๐Ÿ˜‰) but Rayleigh CC has been a huge part of my community and support system, so I wanted to share it with you all first.

Rayleighโ€™s 1st XI claim a rain-hit finale to the league season, but fall a point short of promotion ๐Ÿ˜ข

Despite finishing the season with a win against Southend-on-Sea & EMT, Rayleigh had to settle for third place in Division 1 of the TRMEL - falling an agonising one point short off snatching a promotion spot.

Well done to Hatfield Peverel for picking up 2nd place and thanks to SOSEMT for sticking it out in the bad weather on Saturday to get a result ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ
