Midsomer Norton Rugby Club

Midsomer Norton Rugby Club MNRFC runs three Senior XVs, a thriving Junior Section for boys and girls as well as Vets, Mixed Ability and women's sides.

First XV competing in Counties 1 Western North this season. Midsomer Norton Rugby Club Ltd was established in 1936. It is now located on the outskirts of the town at Norton Down where it has three excellent pitches, a floodlit training area, clubhouse and large carpark. The Club runs three adult teams: the First XV play in Counties 2 Somerset, the Second XV are in Counties 3 and our Third XV compe

te in Counties 4. The club also runs a Vets side known as The Optomists. Midsomer Norton RFC also has a thriving Junior Section which has over 250 members and provides coaching, training and competitive games for boys and girls from 5 to 12 in its Mini Section on Sunday mornings. There are also teams for boys each age group from U13s to U16s, the U17s & U18s play together as the Colts age group. In 2023 the club launched women's touch rugby and also sides for girls above the age of 12. The club has an excellent clubhouse, bar and social facilities which are available for hire. The club has wheelchair friendly access. The extensive playing fields and changing rooms have been used regularly for football tournaments, cross country running events, music events, fundays, weekend rallies and music festivals. MNRFC takes the welfare of children in its care very seriously and has recently been granted Accredited Status which confirms that proper Coaching and Child Protection standards are in place.

We are devastated to learn of the passing of our volunteer, supporter and friend Michelle Ball.

As a rugby mum, she was a force in the clubhouse - including helping Connie and the team to feed hundreds of kids each Sunday. Michelle also sat on our Bar and Entertainment committee, using her many talents to support our range of events in all sorts of ways.

In recent months Michelle courageously fought cancer for a second time but continued to support the club and volunteer. She will be greatly missed by so many.

The club sends its love to Andy, Jack and Lilyanna.

A huge thank you to Chronologic for their ongoing sponsorship of the Women’s team through match shirts and training tops. The latter are pictured here in sunny Benidorm as well as in a slightly colder Midsomer Norton.

While we’re busy tracking metres gained and tackles made on the pitch, the team at Chronologic are the undisputed experts at tracking time off it. As leaders in workforce management, they provide the tech that keeps UK businesses running like a well-oiled scrum.

Whether it’s their cloud systems for flexible teams or their heavy-duty biometric face and fingerprint readers that stop “buddy punching” in its tracks, they have a solution for every sideline.

They don’t just sell hardware; they provide the software that makes payroll a breeze and ensures everyone is accounted for local businesses like this that keep grassroots rugby alive. We’re proud to wear the name of a company that values precision, reliability, and teamwork as much as we do.

The first winner of the Triple Crown is Connor Schuster.

Through thick and thin he’s our Swiss Army Knife - a solution to every problem across the backline - excelling at 9, 12, 13 and 14 this season.

Great player, and maybe a better bloke. Maybe.

Our Young Player of the Year goes to Finnan Doyle.

After a frustrating campaign last season - no starts for the 1s, nailed by Dave Attwood, red cards and suspect trips to the RUH - he smashed it this year.

Playing every First XV match, he formed a great partnership with Feary and became one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Players of the Year time - and this posts those making an impression outside of the First XV.

Second XV is scrum-half Max Bryson. The Queen of TikTok started the season worried about playing seniors, and ended it scoring in the National Cup Final.

Third XV player of the year is Toro Rosso. What a huge season from this man, stepping up to lead on so many occasions.

For the Optos it is Martin Holliwell. One Vets game, one try and an awesome tourist.

Both excelled for the Colts and made the step up to seniors. The future is bright.

Next up we have our personalities of the year.

First XV winner was Horse. After rupturing his Achilles in preseason he stepped in as team manager for the First XV, alongside organising socials and tour. Turning up every weekend, even when it was a bit ‘chilly’ on the sidelines, he sometimes even remembered to do the subs.

Our Second XV winner was Brennan Doyle. On the pitch Brennan contributed across the top three and made a number of First XV appearances. Notably he had the best contributions to the ‘bring an item’ matchday theme, the highlights being a lawnmower, a coffee machine and an actual toilet.

The Third XV winner was Mike Boulton. The veteran prop was outstanding all year and put in 100% - often through injuries.
