Last week we had a chicken at our parkrun (a human-sized one, but a chicken nonetheless!). This week it was two hens, both looking beautiful and glamorous, which is no mean feat while running 5k on a breezy, cold beach. We hope you both have a wonderful weekend of celebrations and send our very best wishes for your big day.
Along with the two hens, 241 people made it safely up and down the beach, all thanks to the 17 selfless volunteers who gave up their time for you.
Please do consider volunteering. One of our other local events had to cancel today due to a lack of volunteers, and recently we have had to make last-minute appeals to ensure our event could go ahead.
While we’re talking about volunteers, some of you may know “Big Ivan”, who only recently stepped down from his ambassador role which also followed many years as Event Director at Bangor. During his time as ambassador, Ivan helped get Armoy, Christie and Riverside parkruns up and running (pardon the pun), as well as providing support to us, Garvagh, Lower Drummans and Portrush juniors.
To date, Ivan has volunteered 330 times, which gives some indication of his remarkable commitment. Thank you, Ivan, for everything you have done for parkrun and for our local running community.
As well as celebrations for our hens, we also had a number of milestones. You may be aware that there is even more to cheer about, as parkrun is planning to recognise additional milestones, giving us even more opportunities to show off those brightly coloured milestone tees!
Well done to:
300: Nicolas Webber, Michael Alcorn and Carol Senior
250: Maureen Donnelly and Wendy Blundell
200: David Ellis
100: Charlotte O’Flaherty
50: Neil Gordon and Peter Stewart
25: Paul Quinn, Brid McGee and Glenda Mellon
Congratulations to you all!
The forecast for next week suggests slightly warmer temperatures, with sunshine between the showers, so we’re keeping our focus on that. We look forward to seeing you all on the beach.
