Today I completed my 150th parkrun milestone at MUSA parkrun, Cookstown. I didn't even remember until the lovely team gave me a shout-out in today's run report and somehow it seems very apt that number 150 was here instead of my usual home town parkrun.
I joined MUSA parkrun, Cookstown after the birth of my youngest daughter Aoibhin. A keen and consistent runner for many years, a tough post birth journey and recovery meant that I didn't know how or where to restart my fitness and running.
The lovely Beryl Greaves encouraged me to give Parkrun a go so I did.
Every week, the legendary Irwin Spiers encouraged me as I pushed Aoibhin in her running buggy up the final hill at the end of every lap. Slowly, but surely, we went from a walk, to a jog to a run. I will be forever grateful for Irwin's kind words and smiles of encouragement as we made it to the end of each lap. I hope he always knew how much of an impact he made and how much he motivated us all at Parkrun❤️
Over the years, Parkrun has introduced me to many inspiring people and new friends as both a runner and volunteer and continues to be an amazing community of the friendliest like-minded people. One I feel very lucky to have found and to be part of ❤️
Thank you MUSA parkrun, Cookstown and all of today's volunteers for braving the rain, for reminding me of today's milestone, how far I've come and my 'Why.' Looking forward to the next 150!
