Pickering Town vs Horbury Town FC

This is Horbury’s second season in the premier division, although at one point last season they were on the fringes of the relegation battle but 4 points from their final two games with a win over Albion Sports in their second last game and a point gained in a 1-1 draw versus Frickley in the last game securing them another season in the top division.
They have had a much better start to the season this time around, going unbeaten in their first four games with 2 wins and 2 draws before suffering their first defeat in the league last Tuesday when going down 1-0 at home to present league leaders Bottesford Town.
Previously the wins had come against Parkgate 2-0 in the first game of the season followed by a 3-2 win at Frickley Colliery with the draws both away coming against Thackley 0-0 and a 1-1 draw at Rossington Main.
They had an eventful time in the FA Cup, firstly beating Golcar United 3-0 away in the Extra Preliminary Round in a replay after the first game had finished in a 1-1 draw. In the next round having drawn 1874 Northwich from the NPL West Division the first game also finished in a 1-1 draw, with Horbury winning the replay with the only goal of the game coming in the 72nd minute scored by Aaron Fell.
Then on Saturday they finally exited the competition when losing 2-0 away at Prescot Cables, another side from the NPL West Division.
They went out of the FA Vase at the first qualifying round stage when losing 2-1 at home to first division side Club Thorne Colliery.
Last season’s games between the sides saw a thrilling 4-4 draw at Mill Lane with Horbury taking an early lead in the 4th minute with a goal from Joe Jagger, Souleymane Coulibaly equalised 4 minutes later, further goals from Joe Jagger again and Abdou Bojang gave Horbury a 3-1 half time lead. Joe Wood quickly pulled a goal back at the beginning of the second half. Joe Jagger then completed his hat trick to restore Horbury’s two goal lead, but not to be undone Souleymane Coulibaly scored again to bring the score back to 4-3 and then proceeded to equalise in the 90th minute to bring the scores level and at the same time bring up his hat trick.
The return game also didn’t go without some excitement, Souleymane Coulibaly was again on the score sheet and put us in the lead. Horbury equalised in the 88th minute, but Charlie Thompson then scored the winner in injury time to give us a 2-1 victory.
