A fantastic day for our Aussie Pairs on a very wet finals day at South Cliff Bowling Club .
Rain didnt stop play, as much as it tried. Seamer were contesting the Cup and we were hoping to retain the Colin Gray Trophy. Everyone battled the on and off showers and occasional downpour, but we definately got the measure of the elements better than our opponents Sleights Blue, winning all three rinks for a comprehensive result.
To put the icing on the cake we were presented with the division 1 champions shield as well.
Well done to each and every one of my strong squad who all had a hand in cup results and league results to make it another sucessful season for our Aussie Pairs.
Well done to Seamer Bowling Club, North Yorkshire who lifted the Lees Shield, and thanks to South Cliff for their hospitality in hosting the finals.

On Super-hot week for bowling the results were unfortunately not our best.
The Scarborough Vets tripped up on Tuesday, away on Flamborough's really tricky green. Although it was an 8-0 defeat, two of the games were incredibly close and lost by only a couple of shots each, so it was disappointing, but shows why Flamborough win all their home games. The table is still close though, but we need a couple of good wins now to keep us in the mix for the top.

The Ryedale Vets had a similar disappointment at home to neighbours Pickering in Wednesday losing 10 - 0 and pushing them down a place or two in the table. Its still going to be a battle just to to stay in the top division, but I'm sure one we will win with another couple of good results.

The Aussie pairs ended the week with some celebration as they visited Seamer on what could only be described as a 'challenging green'...suffering from lack of water making it super fast and swinging. It was a testiment to our persistance to try and master the difficulties and we were rewarded with an 8-0 win to remain at the top of the table with a 10 point clearance and still a game in hand.

Well, it has been as hot as forecast and our precautionary measures took place as advised by Bowls England.
On Tuesday we reduced the ends, and benefitted from a bit of a breeze half way through the game which lowered the temperature slightly. The game itself was a 2nd round cup match against Sleights Red, and with a bit of a depleted team did well to win on all three rinks to progress to the next round.

Wednesdays game was sensibly put off until 6pm when it was thankfully much cooler at Hovingham. Once again we were a couple players down and had to bring in some occasional players to make up the 4 rinks needed for the Sundella cup match.
The result was a three rink to one resounding win
84 - 45, and progress to the semi final to face either Malton or Sheriff Hutton at a neutral venue.

Todays Aussie Pairs match was postponed to later in the season due to more extreme heat warnings, so its a welcome day off!!

Today we held our annual whistlestop Gala Day and what a turnout! 22 teams, consisting of 66 players and a couple of extras, competed for the Millennium Cup and cash prizes.
A lot of hard work went into making the day a huge success... notably an amazing response of donations from local businesses in Thornton Dale, Pickering and Snainton to the raffle prizes.
A big team effort of club volunteers to run the kitchen and raffles and not to mention the wonderful spread of food.
At half time there was a charity 'spider' in aid of Visually Impaired Bowlers (VIBE) to attend the 2027 internationals in New Zealand, which raised £50

It was also a big day for the youngest competitor Lillie Suchecki (aged 8) who wowed the spectators with her confident bowling. Jan Suchecki.

The winning team was Pat Lawry from Kirkbymoorside BC, 2nd Stuart Stamford from Scalby BC and third place Bernard Chalk from Filey BC.

All in all a wonderful day, raising just over £800
For the green and clubhouse maintenance.

The Scarborugh Vets and Ryedale Vets continued their winning streak this week. Dodging rain, hail, thunder and lightening we still managed to overcome top of the table Seamer on Tuesday taking all 8 points (70-33) and leapfrog over them into the top spot.

And yesterday, achieving another full points haul against Kirkbymoorside, winning 10-0 in a very close game that just went our way on 2 rinks on the final couple of ends with the other rink winning comfortably from half way. Our run in the top flight is proving we deserved the fight it took for us to get promotion. 4th place amongst some very good teams.

Unfortunately the Aussie Pairs was called off due to the forecast of heavy rain...which annoyingly didn't materialise, so we have to wait until next week to see what that brings. However, with a severley depleted squad we will have to pull out all the stops to do enough to maintain our top place.
