Today we held our annual whistlestop Gala Day and what a turnout! 22 teams, consisting of 66 players and a couple of extras, competed for the Millennium Cup and cash prizes.
A lot of hard work went into making the day a huge success... notably an amazing response of donations from local businesses in Thornton Dale, Pickering and Snainton to the raffle prizes.
A big team effort of club volunteers to run the kitchen and raffles and not to mention the wonderful spread of food.
At half time there was a charity 'spider' in aid of Visually Impaired Bowlers (VIBE) to attend the 2027 internationals in New Zealand, which raised £50

It was also a big day for the youngest competitor Lillie Suchecki (aged 8) who wowed the spectators with her confident bowling. Jan Suchecki.

The winning team was Pat Lawry from Kirkbymoorside BC, 2nd Stuart Stamford from Scalby BC and third place Bernard Chalk from Filey BC.

All in all a wonderful day, raising just over £800
For the green and clubhouse maintenance.

The Scarborugh Vets and Ryedale Vets continued their winning streak this week. Dodging rain, hail, thunder and lightening we still managed to overcome top of the table Seamer on Tuesday taking all 8 points (70-33) and leapfrog over them into the top spot.

And yesterday, achieving another full points haul against Kirkbymoorside, winning 10-0 in a very close game that just went our way on 2 rinks on the final couple of ends with the other rink winning comfortably from half way. Our run in the top flight is proving we deserved the fight it took for us to get promotion. 4th place amongst some very good teams.

Unfortunately the Aussie Pairs was called off due to the forecast of heavy rain...which annoyingly didn't materialise, so we have to wait until next week to see what that brings. However, with a severley depleted squad we will have to pull out all the stops to do enough to maintain our top place.

And the wins keep on coming...
This week all three teams had brilliant wins....Tuesday's Scarborough Vets exacted revenge on FIley Southdene, beating them 6-2 at home moving up a place into 3rd. Yesterday the Ryedale vets had an excellent win in the rain at Helmsley to keep them in the top half of the table. And today the Aussie Pairs completed the trio by beating Scalby 6-2 on their home ground to remain at the top of division 1.
It's early days still with only 5 weeks of the season completed, but it's looking good so far!!😁😁

The Scarborough Vets kept up their winning ways this afternoon. Even though we were threatened with rain and thunderstorms, they didn't materialise and it turned out to be a perfect climate for bowls. The visitors were Filey, who were returning after last weeks Aussie Pairs game where they knocked us out of the cup. This time we got the upper hand, and held on to it with a good grip to win on 2 rinks, taking the aggregate and 6 points to their 2. The League table is now very interesting, we sit in third place, with the top 6 teams only seperated by 5 points after 5 matches.

A very pleasant afternoon spent bowling at Sleights, a nice sea breeze kept the temperature down to manageable.
The match itself was as close as it can get. One rink had a runaway win, 28-8, the second rink negated the majority of that losing 30-11. The third rink had more of a battle with both sides struggling a bit with the pace of the green. At 15 ends TD were behind 15-10 but knowing the aggregate was close, we pushed on, winning the last 3 end to draw the rink, win the aggregate by 1 shot and therefore win the match overall 5-3.
Brilliant team effort everyone.

Who would be daft enough to bowl on a Bank Holiday monday in 30+° heat???
Us, that's who.... The Scarborough vets rearranged cup match took place today, and it was a local derby against Pickering Pikes.
The heat inevitably got to a couple of players and the game was sensibly cut short to 12 ends. This was welcomed by all and didnt affect the result in any way as Thornton Dale were so far in front when the decision was made.
The final score was a victory for TD 56-18 and a place in the next round, with the Pikes going into the consolation plate competition.
