Your feet are doing way more than just carrying you around 👣

Hidden inside the muscles, joints, and tissues of your feet are thousands of sensory receptors constantly sending information to your brain about balance, pressure, movement, and position. This is called proprioception, your body’s ability to know where it is in space.

When foot proprioception is strong:
✨ Balance improves
✨ Movement becomes more efficient
✨ Stability increases
✨ Risk of injury can decrease

But rigid footwear, covering our feet all the time and lack of foot movement can dull these signals over time.

Simple ways to wake your feet up:
• Walk barefoot when possible..it’s sunny so get the feet out ☀️
• Practice balance exercises
• Spend time on varied surfaces like grass and sand

Every year, organises Mental Health Awareness Week. This year, the focussed week runs from 11-17 May.

This years theme is “Take Action” to promote mental wellbeing and encourage practical steps to improve mental health. It’s a UK wide initiative aimed at supporting communities and encouraging positive change.

I continue to benefit from positive mental health when I exercise. I practice Pilates (obviously 😁), but I also love walking, running and more recently feeling the benefits of additional strength training. I look after my physical health, and my mind benefits MASSIVELY 💚

So, my little contribution is this:

Meet the Pilates Pedi Pole ✨

At first glance, it might look simple, but this piece of equipment is all about precision, control, and deep connection. The Pedi Pole challenges your posture, alignment, and balance in a way that’s both subtle and so powerful. My concentration face says it all! 😁

Using spring resistance from above, it helps you find length through your spine, stability and connection through your centre and awareness in every movement. It’s not about big, flashy exercises, it’s about refining the small things that make a big difference.

Think: improved strength in places you didn’t know need strengthening, better alignment and balance, improved coordination, and that focus and organisation of spine, shoulders and arms..the mind works very hard on this!

I definitely have work to keep building on…and keeping that Pole as still as possible is so hard!

I can’t wait to explore this piece of equipment alongside the other classical pieces in the workshop end of May, ‘Connecting the Whole Pilates System’, which will be held in the Designed Pilates studio…so excited and grateful! Continued exploration of the classical equipment alongside other teachers is a weekend full of learning and inspiration ✨💫

Always a pleasure to have in the studio to work with him ad hoc throughout the football season.

As we move closer to end of season, bodies are tired with the increased game time and any imbalances in the body start to ‘shout’ a little.

Teo contacted me to help relieve hamstring tightness, and as always we looked at the full picture.

We ask ‘why’ the restrictions, assess movement and target areas to work on that enables more freedom and efficiency of movement.

Teo left the session with:
💚 less tension in the body
💚 focussed exercises to do at home
💚 increased body awareness

⚽️ Good luck to all the players and teams for end of season targets!
