With a lot of bridle work coming from abroad, corners are sometimes cut by using cheaper fittings.
Take for instance the hook stud which are used on many cheek pieces and reins. These can come in different sizes and quality.
Pictured is a large Hook Stud against a small Hook Stud.. The former has a wide base and will not move whereas the small hook stud will move about.

We have a few custom made copper roller bits here made by the English supplier Abbey England Ltd.
This mouthpiece is ideal if a horse leans on the bit, and does not like the more baulky Waterford style. They can be made with either a lozenge or french link centre and in many cheeks styles.
