FINALLY WERE BACK EVENTING!!!!

Today for the first time since August last year we went eventing!! We went to Solihull with Basil and had a lovely day.

I didn't really have any expectations as I'm rusty and he's very new to this so I wanted to almost use it as training to see where we were at.

Dressage he was a very good boy, first half there wasn't much I would change, second half he got a little unbalanced so was on the fore hand. Judge really liked him and gave us some lovely comments for a 32.5 which put us into 8th. Not a bad start as this was our first dressage test together.

Showjumping before I went in I was like, treat it like a training round, get your canter, keep your shoulders back and don't over fold.
Got my canter came round to the first and fired him 🙈 second fence I held 🙈 3rd, 4th and 5th all fine, fence 6 fired him🙈, fence 7 I held🙈, fence 8 was fine, fence 9 I held 🙈
I think I apologised to Basil 5 times or more in the round, and came out feeling pretty crap and thinking that i can no longer ride!

I wasn't sure if to go xc or not after riding so badly, but Mum, Will and Pat all gave me a talking too and said go and give it a go.

So glad I did, it wasn't perfect but it was great, we just had a glance off at the second last where he got unbalanced on the downhill approach and we met it wrong, so turned a circle, gave him a pat and trotted into it (probably should have done this the first time around) and then jumped the last with big smiles.

Basil had the best time and shows so much potential that I can only be exited about, I now need to not overthink my terrible showjump round and just improve to not do it again!!

Onwards and upwards, excited for the next one 🥰

I thought Basil would have thought I was mad choosing the wettest day of the week to go cross country schooling but safe to say he couldn't have had a bigger smile on his face 😃
Think he's really starting to love his new career 🥰

The lovely Otto is heading home today after his three weeks schooling with me.

I've really enjoyed working with this lovely big boy, really looking forward to watching what him and his owner Taz do together.

This does free up one space on the yard if anyone wants me to have there horse for schooling, breaking, retraining, rehab or while there on holiday. Please get in touch xx

I love hacking.
I love it for many reasons, but I love it most for what it does for young horses.
Benji who's just turned 4, went on a hack today somewhere he's never been before.

He went in front, behind and long sides Liffi, he did gates, he stood and waited while Liffi did some.

He went up and down hills, over different terrains, all on a loose rein, enough of a contact to support him if needed but long enough for him to look and take everything in, to figure out where to put his own feet and to find his own balance.

He will have learnt way more today than he ever would going round in circles in the arena, he can do that when he's bigger and stronger.

Benji will take a while before he's ready to even consider competing, but let's just say I'm very happy to take all the time he needs but I am super excited about what his future holds 🥰
