Awesomeness !!

19/09/2026

How much energy does it take to be the person everyone expects you to be?

The capable one.
The reliable one.
The one who always copes.
The one who never says no.
The one who keeps going when everyone else stops.

After a while, you may not even realise you’re doing it.

You just think:
This is who I am.
But is it?
Or is some of it who you learned to become to feel successful, needed, accepted or safe?

Here’s something to think about today:

What am I afraid would happen if I stopped trying so hard to prove myself?

That question can reveal a lot.

And once you begin recognising these patterns in yourself, you may start seeing them differently in the people around you too.

The colleague who never says no.
The employee who works long after everyone has left.
The person who needs everything to be perfect.
The one everybody relies on, who may quietly be exhausted.

Sometimes what looks like high performance from the outside is costing far more on the inside than anyone realises.

There is another way to live and work.

Less proving. More becoming.

HIGH PERFORMANCE CAN HIDE AN UNHEALTHY SURVIVAL PATTERN.

This one matters in organisations.

Because some behaviours we reward in high performers can look remarkably impressive from the outside.

Always available.
Never says no.
Checks everything personally.
Works after everyone else has gone home.
Needs everything perfect.
Takes responsibility when nobody else will.
Never asks for help.

We call them:

Committed. Reliable. Driven. High-performing.
But what if sometimes the internal driver is something entirely different?
I cannot let anyone down.
If I don’t control it, something will go wrong.
I need to prove that I deserve to be here.
If I slow down, I’ll fall behind.
I’m only valuable when I’m producing.

Then the organisation may be seeing performance, while the individual is experiencing pressure.

Dr Caroline Leaf’s work describes how unmanaged fear-based thinking can contribute to a toxic stress state and affect thinking and decision-making.

And this is where the broader research becomes particularly relevant. Repetitive negative thinking the cycle of worry and rumination is recognised in psychology as a process that cuts across anxiety and depression, rather than belonging neatly to only to only one condition
What is driving the performance?

Purpose?

Healthy ambition?

Meaning?

Or fear, perfectionism, chronic pressure and never enough?

Because two people can produce exactly the same result while paying very different internal prices to achieve it.

Sustainable performance isn’t only about what someone can deliver.

It’s also about what it costs them internally to keep delivering it.

We measure everything. Except this.

Targets. Deadlines. Revenue. Performance. Sleep. Steps.

But when last did you measure the quality of your internal conversation?

Here’s today’s Inner Boardroom experiment.

For one working day, catch yourself at random moments and ask:

Where has my thinking been living for the last hour?

Possibility or threat?
Perspective or rumination?
Clarity or mental clutter?
Self-trust or relentless self-criticism?

Then tonight, estimate your personal split:

Constructive: ___%
Toxic / unhelpful: ___%

I’m becoming increasingly fascinated by this as I progress through Dr Caroline Leaf’s methodology.

Her framework goes further than simply becoming aware of a thought. It explores the thinking, feeling and choosing behind the pattern and ultimately the roots beneath it.

And that is where our conversations in The Inner Boardroom are going to deepen.

As I complete this training, I want this community to become a place where we don’t simply consume information — we learn how to apply it to real life, sustained pressure, leadership and resilience.

Today, however, I only want your two follow us in Skool šŸ™

High performers don’t always burn out first. They compensate first.

That’s precisely why unhealthy thinking can remain invisible for so long.

The executive still performs.

The business owner still delivers.

The professional still walks into the meeting looking composed.

But underneath that performance may be relentless internal pressure:

Don’t get this wrong.
I should be coping better.
I can’t let anyone down.
Just get through this week.

So here is an experiment

For one working day, audit the quality of your thinking.

At the end of the day, estimate:

Constructive thinking ___%
Toxic/unhelpful thinking ___%

Don’t try to change it yet.

Just notice it.

Because perhaps one of the overlooked performance risks in organisations isn’t simply workload.

It is what people are repeatedly rehearsing internally while carrying that workload.

That intersection between thinking, the brain, the body and performance is becoming an increasingly important part of the work

And I believe it has significant implications for resilience, decision-making and leadership under pressure.

What would your percentage be?

Change the thought. Change the pattern.

Many high-functioning people look strong on the outside while toxic thought patterns are quietly draining them underneath.

They keep performing.
Keep producing.
Keep smiling.
But inside, the same destructive thought is being rehearsed again and again.

And that matters.

Because toxic thoughts are not insignificant.
They can create stress patterns that affect the brain and body over time — which is part of why this conversation is bigger than ā€œjust think positive.ā€

This is what has me so interested in this life work .

The inner world is not separate from performance, leadership, health, and resilience.
It shapes all of it.

That is why CORE focuses on helping people identify the thought patterns behind the behaviour and begin changing what keeps repeating.

Because when the thought changes, the pattern can too. Please follow us in Skool link in the bio
