Yesterday was a busy day down here at Swiss Valley!

We had Ben out presenting in the morning, we had paddleboard lessons, we had a team working on our secret project, we hosted the Llanelli Sea Cadets and we attended the Llanelli Chamber of Trade & Commerce event!

We love how active we are becoming in the wider community!

Day 2 of presenting at the Scarlets Rugby Stadium for the Carmarthenshire Business Awards on why LiveFree Adventures and our wider ecosystem here at Swiss Valley (inc Hiatus and Sauna Y Coed) should win the Tourism & Hospitality and the Rural Business of the Year Awards.

Even if we don’t make the cut, to be the finalist in two categories already means a lot!

A few years ago, we saw something in Swiss Valley that others perhaps didn’t.

We saw potential.

Not everyone agreed.

There were some days when hardly anyone visited. There were days spent picking litter. There were challenges with antisocial behaviour. There were difficult conversations, setbacks, frustrations and more than a few moments where people asked us why we were bothering.

Many simply couldn’t see what we could see or the ways we were going to get there unfounded.

But alongside those challenges were the dog walkers, families, anglers, volunteers, neighbours and local supporters who reminded us exactly why it was worth continuing.

So we kept showing up.

We kept investing.

We kept improving.

We kept adapting.

We kept implementing what people wanted.

One step at a time, what started as a belief in the potential of Swiss Valley began to grow.

Today, that vision has become a thriving visitor attraction that’s won awards, gained credentials and built a reputation whilst welcoming thousands of visitors each month through LiveFree Adventures, Hiatus Coffee and Sauna Y Coed.

Which is why we’re incredibly proud to share that we’ve been named finalists in two categories at the Carmarthenshire Business Awards:

Whilst the nominations carry the LiveFree Adventures name, we see them as recognition of the wider Swiss Valley story.

Every coffee served.

Every paddle launched.

Every sauna session enjoyed.

Every customer who has chosen to spend their time with us.

And every local person who believed in the site long before it became what it is today.

Whether we win or not, being recognised alongside some fantastic Carmarthenshire businesses is something we’re immensely proud of.

⚠️ WORTH A WATCH — EVEN IF THE LANGUAGE ISN’T PERFECT ⚠️

This video doing the rounds online uses a bit more colourful language than we’d normally share… but the core message is absolutely right.

Too many people see flat water and assume it’s safe.

It isn’t.

What many people don’t realise is that the dangers around lakes, reservoirs, quarries and open water go far beyond just “how deep it is”.

Cold water shock can hit within seconds.
Water quality can vary massively.
Hidden objects, w**d, steep drop-offs, currents, silt, submerged hazards and panic are all very real risks — even on hot sunny days.

And unfortunately, every year people lose their lives because they underestimated open water.

One thing this creator does get right is the tone. He’s speaking in a way younger audiences will actually stop scrolling and listen to — and honestly, sometimes that matters more than polished wording.

So:
📱 If strong language isn’t your thing, maybe skip the video.
💡 But if you’ve got teenagers, young adults or mates who jump into random water in summer, it’s probably worth them seeing.

✅ Go with others
✅ Know the environment
✅ Understand cold water shock
✅ Enter the water gradually
✅ Use supervised sites where possible

Big smiles, calm water and young people learning real outdoor skills. ☀️💦

Last night we welcomed Llanelli Sea Cadets onto the reservoir for an evening session on the water — and this is exactly what these spaces should be used for.

Not just screens.
Not just sitting indoors.
But confidence, independence, teamwork and adventure.

Watching young people progress from tentative first strokes to confidently paddling across open water in a single session is always something special. And on evenings like this, with flat water and golden sunshine across the reservoir, you’re reminded just how lucky we are to have this on our doorstep.

At LiveFree Adventures, we’re passionate about creating opportunities for people of all ages to build confidence outdoors, connect with nature and develop lifelong skills through adventure.

Massive respect to the volunteers and team at Llanelli Sea Cadets for the work they do for local young people. 👏
