⛳ Getting to Know the Team: Gareth (Gaz) Johnson

Throughout the off-season, we’ll be getting to know a little more about some of the key people who make Garforth Golf Club what it is.

First up, it’s our Head Professional and owner of The Golf Room, Gareth (Gaz) Johnson!

We’ve put Gaz in the hot seat to answer 10 quickfire questions to find out a little more about the man behind the club’s golf shop, indoor performance hub and so much more 👀

Keep an eye out for more team introductions throughout the off-season.

👏 A brilliant season for our Sixes squad!

A huge well done to all our juniors, who finished 3rd in the league after six games.

While the results are something to be proud of, the real success has been seeing everyone enjoy competitive golf, develop their skills and make lots of new friends along the way.

It’s fantastic to see the clubhouse full of smiling faces, with everyone enjoying themselves and building friendships through the game.

Hopefully, we’re watching the next generation of team players and future Garforth members! 💚

Well done, everyone! 🏌️‍♂️

⛳ At 441 yards from the back tees, the long Par 4 15th sits right in the middle of one of the toughest finishing stretches in Yorkshire.

Two well-struck shots are needed to reach the green, but finding the fairway is only the start of the challenge. Out of Bounds runs along the left, trees line the right, and your second shot must climb uphill over Carr Beck, just 80 yards short of the green.

A huge oak tree guards the left side of the approach, making position off the tee crucial. Find the green and you'll still need to navigate its back-to-front slope, with a greenside bunker waiting to catch anything that drifts right.

A fantastic golf hole that demands accuracy and a little nerve — get it wrong, and it can quickly become a card wrecker! 🌳

World Mental Health Day 💚

Today is a reminder to look out for the people around us and to make time for a conversation.

Golf has always been about more than just the game. It’s time outdoors, a chance to switch off, catch up with friends and spend a few hours away from the pressures of everyday life.

So today (and every other day), check in with someone. Ask how they’re doing, make time for a chat, or simply invite them out for a round.

You never know how much a little company might mean.

Happy Teachers’ Day! 🏌️

A big thank you to Gaz, Aidan and Regan for everything they do at Garforth.

From working with our juniors and helping them develop their game, to all their coaching, advice and everything else they bring to the club, it’s hugely appreciated.

And, as an extra thank you, we’ve cut the end of this video off… so Gaz can let you know whether it went in or not! 👀⛳

Thanks for everything you do, lads!

Investment in our greens ⛳

You may have noticed we’ve been having a little work done at the start of this week!

We’ve had Djuke on site installing Hydrowick drainage to our 1st and 10th greens. It’s caused a little disruption over the start of the week, but we’re pleased to say we’re now back playing on both greens.

The recovery should be fully complete over the next few weeks, with the Hydrowick system designed to improve drainage and help keep these greens in their usual condition for more of the year.

We’ve previously had Hydrowick installed on a number of our other greens, and it has made a massive difference, particularly in helping them cope with wetter conditions.

It’s another important part of our ongoing investment in the course and ensuring we continue to improve the playing experience for our members and visitors.

Thank you for your patience while the work was carried out — we’re looking forward to seeing the full benefits over the coming months and years.

👋 Meet our new Managing Secretary – Lewis Clarke

Back in July, we were delighted to appoint Lewis Clarke as our new Managing Secretary.

Lewis has settled into life at Garforth incredibly quickly, and many of our members will have already had the chance to meet him over the past few months.

For those who haven’t met Lewis yet — and for our visiting guests — we thought it was time to introduce him properly!

🎥 In the video, Lewis tells us a little about his background, his experience, and what he hopes to bring to Garforth Golf Club in his new role.

We’re delighted to have Lewis on board and look forward to seeing his ideas and experience help shape the club as we continue to move forward.

Welcome to Garforth, Lewis! 👏⛳
