A welcome return to Sand Moor.

At the weekend, we hosted the Yorkshire Amateur Matchplay Championship for the first time since 1948.

Congratulations to Oliver Smith of Sickleholme Golf Club, who was crowned County Champion, with Patrick Young of Northcliffe finishing runner-up.

Congratulations also to Richard Norton of Beverley & East Riding Golf Club, who was the Seniors Champion.
It was a pleasure to welcome the championship back to Sand Moor after 78 years and to host another important event in the club’s history.

𝐀 𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐜𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫.

On the 6th of September, Sand Moor was proud to host the 2026 MacKenzie Medallion, bringing together clubs from across the Alister MacKenzie Society to celebrate the work and legacy of the Good Doctor.

Congratulations to Hadley Wood Golf Club, who retained the MacKenzie Medallion, with Halifax Golf Club finishing as runners-up.

The individual honours went to Andy Speak of Halifax and Camilla Dyson of Ilkley.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day such an enjoyable one.

The Medallion is an annual team competition between Alister MacKenzie Society clubs, and Sand Moor’s connection is particularly strong: MacKenzie influenced the creation of the course and sat on the club’s first Greens Committee.

6th hole | Par 4 | 467 yards | SI 2

One of Sand Moor’s sternest tests, the 6th demands accuracy from the outset.

Favour the left side from the tee while avoiding the two fairway bunkers—anything right of centre can kick farther right and leave part, or all, of the green blocked.

From the left, the natural slope can be used to gather the approach onto the putting surface, taking the three bunkers guarding the front and right out of play.
