It will soon be here, the first book from Just Self Defence.
“Yet another self-defence book,” I hear you say!
Well… no.
It’s not a step-by-step guide to fighting. It’s about the real situations I’ve been in that became the foundation of the self-defence system I teach today.
Getting Home Safely is written for ordinary people. People who aren’t interested in learning self-defence, but simply want to feel safer and know what to do if they ever find themselves in a difficult situation.
I share the stories behind the system I created: the Turkish bazaar where awareness alone prevented a potential attack, the New York street where my family walked into what may have been an ambush, the Rotherham car park where even an experienced instructor froze, and the New Year’s Eve stabbing that changed how I thought about everything.
The book follows one central idea across eleven chapters:
Every incident has a beginning, a middle and an end.
Most people only think about the middle, the attack. Most martial arts and self-defence systems focus on it too.
But if you understand the beginning, you can change the end.
This is a practical, honestly told guide to personal safety, built from real situations and drawing on years of martial arts experience, twelve years managing pubs in Leeds, security work and teaching self-defence.
The manuscript is now in professional editing and should be published by the beginning of December 2026.
