1st XV Coaching Team Confirmed for the New Season πŸ‰

We’re pleased to confirm that the 1st XV coaching team remains largely unchanged heading into the new season.

Ex-Premiership Rugby player Ben Sowrey continues as Head Coach, with former 1st XV captain Adam β€˜Giddy’ Horsfall remaining in his role as Assistant Coach. Joining them in a new permanent position is influential 1st XV player Sean Kelly, who stepped away from playing duties last year to take on the role of Attack Coach. Mark Symes continues as team manager, now assisted by Colin Dyson.

Last season, Ben and Giddy successfully introduced 10 new players to 1st XV rugby, including several graduates from our Colts programme. Their commitment to developing home-grown talent has strengthened the squad and provided valuable opportunities for the club’s next generation of players.

Working closely with the newly appointed Stags coaching team and the Bucks (U18s), the focus will continue to be on creating a strong pathway from junior and Colts rugby into the senior game, with the aim of helping more talented young players make the step up to 1st XV rugby.

Building on last season, the coaching team will continue to develop a competitive squad that combines emerging young talent with experienced senior players, ensuring the club remains well-positioned for the challenges of Counties 1 Yorkshire.

This continuity within the coaching setup is a positive step forward for the 1st XV and an important part of strengthening the rugby pathway throughout Keighley RUFC πŸŸ’πŸ”΄

Director of Rugby Appointment ✍️

Keighley RUFC is delighted to announce the appointment of David Lister as the club’s new Director of Rugby.

David is very much one of our own, having come through the junior section at Keighley before going on to represent the club at senior level. He later moved on to play for Wharfedale in National 1, gaining valuable experience at a high standard of rugby.

Many members will also remember David from his previous spell as Keighley Head Coach, where he led the club to promotion into North 1 East, and he now brings with him a huge amount of experience both as a player and as a coach. He is currently involved with the Yorkshire Academy and also teaches at Ampleforth School, continuing to develop young players and help them progress within the game.

The Director of Rugby role is an important step forward for the club. David will help support rugby across all levels at Keighley RUFC, from age grade and colts rugby through to the senior teams. A key focus will be strengthening the pathway between juniors, colts and senior rugby, supporting coaches, improving player development, and helping us build a more joined-up rugby structure across the club.

This appointment comes at an exciting time for Keighley RUFC. With the Stags preparing to move into the Yorkshire leagues, a renewed focus on player development, and a clear ambition to grow the game at Rose Cottage, David’s appointment shows that we are a progressive club looking to improve, develop and move forward.

We are delighted to welcome David into the role and look forward to working with him as we continue to build for the future πŸŸ’πŸ”΄

Welcome to our new Stags coaches 🦌

We’re pleased to announce the new Stags coaching and management team ahead of next season.

Will Armitage, former 1st XV captain and Colts coach for the past four years, will take on the role of Head Coach. He will be joined by Luke Carter, former 1st XV player and 1st XV manager, who steps into the role of Assistant Coach. Completing the team is David Borcherds, who has been Colts Team Manager and will now step up to become Stags Manager.

The focus moving forward will be strongly centred around the Colts pathway, reconnecting with past Colts, helping current Colts make the transition into senior rugby, and working closely with future Colts as they come through the club.

Having those younger players developing alongside experienced senior players will be
key, creating a positive balance within the squad as the Stags prepare to take their place in the Yorkshire leagues.

This is an exciting next step for the Stags and an important part of building a strong
senior rugby pathway at Keighley RUFC πŸŸ’πŸ”΄

Keighley Stags Update 🦌

The current Stags coaching and management team will be stepping down from their roles ahead of next season.

The club would like to say a big thank you to Duncan Walsh, Nigel Curr and Colin Dyson for the time, effort and commitment they have given to the Stags over recent seasons.

Between them, they have worked hard behind the scenes and on matchdays to keep the team going, support the players and represent Keighley RUFC in the right way.

Their dedication to the side and to the club has been greatly appreciated, and we would like to thank all three for everything they have put into their roles πŸ’šβ€οΈ
