RESULTS WEEK 10 ⭐️

The 1st XI continue their unbeaten start to the league campaign with a win over Cononley Cricket Club.

Batting first, everything looked to be going wrong at 7/2 before Tom (58) and Matt (26) attempted to rescue the innings. All out for 121 looked like a tough total for the bowlers to defend, but my word, did they get the job done!

Shahbaz (5/32) and Haseeb (4/29) opened the bowling and set about dismantling the Cononley top order. Aqib finished the job with the final wicket as Long Lee secured victory by 19 runs.

The 2nd XI faced an ever-difficult Denholme Cricket Club side who, from ball one, started attacking the Long Lee opening bowlers. As 3rd change, the ever-reliable Yasser stepped up to quash what could have become an even more destructive innings, taking 5/44 from his 10 overs. Two wickets for Sultan and one each for Zakki and Danny helped restrict the visitors to 259 from their 40 overs.

Tom and Moeez opened the batting with respectable totals of 12 and 18, setting up a slim chance of a Long Lee victory. Adheel came in at number 5 and batted superbly given the circumstances, finishing on 43. As the batting effort fizzled out, we were reduced to 108 all out, suffering defeat by 151 runs.

Plenty of positives can be taken despite the loss. It was a resilient performance from a team that remains high in spirits as we head into next week.

The 1st XI face Wilsden in a top-of-the-table clash, while the 2nd XI travel to Bradford And Bingley CC.

Exciting news coming for our junior team members. While we finalise details the club would like to put some feelers out.

Who would sign up to be part of our mixed under 13s juniors team next year . Open to current players who have aged out of the current team and new players. This will include additional training sessions with a hard ball and one to one coaching with a level 2 coach!!

RESULTS GW9! ⭐️

Bittersweet on and off the field this weekend at Long Lee.

The 1XI produced another phenomenal performance, restricting Skipton CI Cricket Club to just 73! Aqib was the pick of the bowlers with 4/7, while departing Qasim opened the bowling with figures of 3/22. Further wickets from Shahbaz (2) and Tommy (1) set up a second innings chase we wish we could have every week! In a changed-up batting order, Ben (31) and Qasim (15) opened the batting with a 48-run opening partnership, setting up Waqas and James to knock off the remaining runs for the loss of just two wickets.

The 2XI faced a difficult opponent in Bowling Baptist CC in the Cowling Cup, and it proved to be a tough afternoon all round. Our opponents batted first and posted 132/5 from their 20 overs. The pick of the bowlers, yet again, was Yasser with 2/24. One wicket each from Danny, Simon and Zakki helped limit the score as much as possible. At 4/4, it looked all but over for the twos. Yasser (37*) and Zakki (29) did what they could to limit the damage and try to force a result, but Long Lee finished on 86 after batting out their overs, losing the tie by 46 runs.

The second slide shows Big Qasim’s stats during his short time with LLCC. He joined us at just 15 and made an immediate impact, taking wickets at crucial moments and helping us secure promotion back to Div 2 at the first attempt. We wish him the very best for his new chapter in York, and we know that wherever he chooses to play cricket, he will be a key part of their team. Good luck, Qasim!

With the cup competitions now completed, we turn our full focus back to the league. The firsts travel to Cononley Cricket Club, while the seconds welcome Denholme Cricket Club to Golden View.

Players in our weekly bonus ball game may have noticed that there are now two draws each Saturday. In order to not change the payment amount we will continue to use the first draw to find our weekly winner.
