Sharing some photographs of our recent journey on the Stratford Canal and along the Grand Union Canal.

Through the very wet Shrewley tunnel and onto the 21 locks at Hatton.

We have done plenty of locks on this journey but the beautiful Warwickshire countryside is well worth it.
Simba and Biscuit feel the same and are catching up with some catnaps 😸😸

We often use this stretch of canal that takes us through Stoke-on-Trent.

The canal side landscape features the industry of yesteryear driven by innovators like Josiah Wedgwood in the eighteenth century.

The area is known as "The Potteries," and has a history of ceramics for over 300 years.

On the boat we pass iconic bottle shaped kilns and ruins of warehouses intermingled with factories that still make ceramics today.

It’s an interesting boat journey.
And at the end of it Simba approves of our mooring spot whilst Biscuit catches up with his favourite Attenborough programme 😸😻

Coats and hats for the journey through the long and chilly
Harecastle Tunnel.

The tunnel was a major feat of the Industrial Revolution to transport coal and is 1.6 mile long (2.6km).

It is also known as "Scare Castle".
Tales of hauntings - the most famous is the Kidsgrove Boggart.
Believed to be the spirit of a murdered woman named Kit Crewbucket.
She was murdered in the 1800s by canal boat men.
Boaters over time have reported shrieks and seeing the "headless woman" in the darkness.

The tunnel is very low in parts, with water dripping through.
It is a dark and eerie place.
Incredible to think that the men of yesteryear would lie on their backs and used their legs along the roof to move the boats through.

Even though it’s still chilly the sight of the ducklings, wildlife and colourful flowers are inspirational to the soul and creativity and makes cruising the canals even more enjoyable.

Biscuit cat usually helps with mine and Paul’s artwork - I think he may have been an artist in his former life 😹🎨✏️
