✨ “She used the breathing technique you taught her in her maths exam when the anxiety started to rise… and it worked.”
That message from a parent has stayed with me ever since.
Over the last few months, I had the privilege of delivering a wellbeing and mindset programme at Ipswich School, helping students learn practical tools to manage stress and anxiety during exam season.
Now that the school year has come to an end, I’ve been reflecting on what we achieved together.
After just one session, 75% of students reported feeling more in control of their anxiety, and many also said they found it easier to focus and concentrate.
The parent went on to say:
“The breathing techniques you’ve taught her have been great. She used them in her maths exam today when she felt the anxiety rising, and she said it was brilliant at calming her.”
That message meant so much to me.
When I was at school, there was nothing like this. We were taught what to learn, but very little about how to manage stress, anxiety or overwhelm.
I can’t help but wonder how different things might be if every young person left school with a few simple tools to understand their nervous system, calm themselves when life feels overwhelming, and approach challenges with a little more confidence.
I’m incredibly grateful to Ipswich School for giving me the opportunity to be part of their students’ journey, and I’m excited to continue bringing this work into more schools.
If you’re involved in a school, college or organisation and would like to explore how something like this could support your students or staff, I’d love to have a conversation.
Lots of love,
Steve 💚
