At the weeekend, Ellon Rugby defeated Gordonians seconds 57-33 with a bonus point to get their Arnold Clark Caledonia One season off to a good start.

Last year was a tough one for Ellon and they had to pull out of National Four in late January after struggles to get a squad out.

As a result, they are back in the regional leagues now and, on Saturday, got things going for 2026-27 away to Gordonians.

And, in the end, it was a good win for them in an entertaining encounter. Gordonians took a four-try bonus point from the game.

Ellon are top of the fledgling Caledonia One North Conference standings and Ross Sutherland Rugby Club are second in the eight-team section after a 50-31 bonus point home win over Highland seconds.

Freddie Kennedy, Owen Laird, Fraser Craig, Luke Mackenzie, Andy Johnston and Gregor McPherson (3) scored the Ross Sutherland tries with John Mann kicking five conversions. Highland took a four-try bonus point from the game.

Mackie Rugby Football Club are third after they began the league campaign with a 45-27 home bonus point win over Caithness while Moray Rugby Club are fourth after they edged to a 31-29 bonus point victory away at Kinloss Eagles. The Eagles picked up two bonus points in defeat.

Not the result we wanted today against Mackie, but huge credit to our U16s Team for pushing hard right to the final whistle.

Plenty of positives to take away from the performance and valuable learnings to build on as a group.
