If you’re skipping your strength work and adding in more mileage, you’re leaving gains on the table, and opening the door for injuries to walk in.

It doesn’t have to be rocket science, just some very simple concepts executed consistently well.

This is low hanging fruit.

But you’ve never done it, or if you have and not seen the benefit, you’ve either done too much, or nowhere near enough to promote change.

There’s a middle ground, and that’s where the magic lies to your next PB.

I’ve ran everything from 5k’s to 100 mile ultra marathons, and without the strength work would have got nowhere near.

5th place at the ThruDark® The Yomp ultra yesterday, savage course up in the lakes surrounded by some incredible runners!

Huge thanks to the ThruDark team for the invitation to be a part of an iconic day and combine it with our EDA Q2 meet up.

We had clients doing the 20k, mountain marathon and mountain ultra, all absolutely smashing it out the park, couldn’t be prouder of each and every one of them!

The people and connections you make along the way is what its all about 🫡

SKIN IN THE GAME.

There’s a difference between knowing the path and walking it.

For the last 15 years, I’ve coached athletes, executives and high performers to achieve results they once thought were beyond them.

But our coaching isn’t built on theory alone.

It’s built on evidence, application, and experience.

I’ve spent decades testing the limits of human performance on myself first.

* 24-Hour Indoor Rowing British Record
* 3-mile swim, 240-mile cycle, 33-mile ultra marathon
* Run Coast to Coast: 215 miles in 46 hours 54 minutes
* London Marathon: 2:52
* Berlin Marathon: 2:45
* New York Marathon: 2:48
* Chicago Marathon: 2:41
* Boston Marathon: 2:39
* Ironman Leeds: 11:23
* UTMB Snowdonia 100-Miler: 44 hours

I’ve experienced the training highs, the race-day breakthroughs, the injuries, the setbacks, the failures, and the moments where everything tells you to stop.

That’s why our approach is different.

In today’s coaching world, there’s no shortage of people repeating information they’ve read.

What separates great coaches is the ability to combine science with lived experience.

To know when to push.

When to hold back.

When to adapt.

When to trust the process.

And when to change it.

The best coaches don’t just understand performance.

They’ve lived it.

Because coaching isn’t about telling people what to do.

It’s about guiding them through challenges you’ve faced yourself.

That’s the foundation of hybrid performance coaching.

Not theory.

Not motivation.

Applied expertise, backed by real-world experience.

Results leave clues. Experience leaves scars. We have both.

One of the biggest myths in endurance sport is that success requires professional athlete levels of training.

And at times, it might, but not all the time.

Most of us train because we love it.

But training isn’t our job.

And while we all enjoy spending time improving our fitness, there are seasons of life where other priorities deserve attention too.

That doesn’t mean your progress has to stop.

It simply means you need to become more intentional with the time you do have available.

A well-structured 5–6 hour training week can produce incredible results when every session has a purpose.

The goal isn’t to train as much as possible.

The goal is to get the maximum return from the training you can consistently sustain.

You don’t need to live like a pro.

You just need a plan built for real life.

This past couple of weeks the most common question I’ve had is how a time poor individual can make their hybrid training work…

Well, I hope this helps 🫡

45 years old. Father of two. Full time job.
Marathon PB: 4 hours.

Steve came to me 20 weeks out.

The goal was sub 4, never hit that mark.
Here’s what his training looked like when he arrived:

Running four days a week at roughly the same pace.

Strength trained but no real direction with what he needed and how much.

Nutrition the same every day regardless of training load.

No real rest days, guilt every time he considered one.

Working hard. Very consistent but wanted more. Starting to wonder if sub 4 was just out of reach.

It wasn’t out of reach. The structure just wasn’t there.

We rebuilt the week properly.

Easy runs genuinely easy. Hard sessions hard.

Nutrition periodised around the training load.

On harder days, supported this with higher energy intake, lower days, not so much.

One full rest day protected every week, non negotiable. Down tools, family time.

Same athlete. Same hours. Different structure.

Race day: 3:48.

Not because he trained more. Because the training he was already doing finally had a system behind it.

This is what I build for every athlete I work with. The methodology comes from 15 years inside professional sport.

The application is built around your race, your schedule, and your life.

If you’ve got a race on the calendar and you know your preparation needs to be better, it might not be an effort or a time problem, but a structure problem.

Sound familiar?

If this you, I want to hear from you!

Iron sharpens iron ⚔️

I first heard Tom’s story when we met around 3 years ago when I was still working on the gym floor.

We had way more in common than we’d first thought - Similar mindsets, visions, goals and outlook on life.

Now one of the UK’s leading voices in mental health, mindset and resilience, he is one of the most inspirational guys you’ll hear from and the work he’s doing across the country in schools and private companies is inspirational and life changing to anyone fortunate enough to be in his presence.

After he asked me on his podcast last year, it was only right we returned the favour.

This is the most powerful thing you’ll listen to today!

Appreciate you brother.
