Humshaugh Cricket Club

Humshaugh Cricket Club Humshaugh Cricket Club, founded 1895, original member of the West Tyne Cricket League.

Humshaugh CC

Cricket has been played on the present ground on the south side of the River North Tyne for over 100 years. Originally the club was housed on the Chesters estate adjacent to the current English Heritage Roman fort. Matches in those early days were played over 2 or more days, sometimes involving the local ‘gentry', but often it was estate workers and members of the village, who turned out.

After a tough defeat last weekend against a strong Greenside Cricket Club we bounced back against Newton Cricket Club Newton with a hard fought victory at Mowden Hall.

Captain Arnup won the toss and we decided to bat however some low bounce saw us lose some early wickets although Hedley Renton made 27 early on. Jack Garret (39) and Crispin Straker (25) steadied the ship during some tough middle overs before being bowled out for 145 in the 40th.

In return Newton looked on course for victory however Alex Wallace stepped up with 4 wickets and we eventually bowled Newton out for 117 inside 33 overs. Will Forster continued his good form with 3 wickets, Steven Arnup 1 and a sharp run out for Alex. 29 points for the Haugh.
