Dear Members, Players, Parents, Coaches and Supporters,
After nine weeks in post as Chairperson – which, I have to admit, feels a lot longer on some days! – I wanted to take the opportunity to give everyone an update on what has been happening behind the scenes at Old Cryptians RFC.
Firstly, I want to recognise our new committee, who have been amazing in helping to move the club forward. Like any new committee, there will always be a few hiccups along the way, but the strength we draw from each other and the way everyone has pulled together is something we should be incredibly proud of. There is a real determination within the team to make positive things happen for our club.
As many of you will have already seen, events are starting to appear in the diary – and this really is only the tip of the iceberg. The team behind me has been working hard to put together a calendar covering the entire season and even into summer 2027.
We want OCRFC to be somewhere for everyone, so the calendar will include family nights, over-18s events, social evenings, weekend events and plenty more. Our aim is to create a clubhouse that is busy, welcoming and enjoyable throughout the year, not just on match days.
While this fantastic programme of events is being developed, there is also a huge amount of work happening on the rugby side of the club. Recruitment of both players and coaches is underway, and courses are being booked to support and develop our coaches, helping us provide the best possible rugby experience for players of all ages.
This season also sees a new Head Coach and coaching team for our senior section, and I am really excited to see what they can achieve as we move into the new season.
There is so much being planned and worked on behind the scenes. Those who know me will know that I never sit still! I have particularly enjoyed listening to stories about the history of Old Cryptians, while also hearing people's ideas about its future. This club has an incredible history, and I believe that with imagination, determination and the drive of the people around it, there are so many ideas that we can bring to life.
Most importantly, this isn't just the committee's club – it belongs to all of us.
I have attached our club questionnaire and would really encourage members, players, parents and supporters to complete it. It is completely anonymous unless you choose to add your name, so please use it as an opportunity to tell us what you think, what you would like to see improved and what you would like the future of OCRFC to look like.
Your feedback genuinely matters and will help us shape our priorities moving forward.
As we head into the new season, I cannot wait to start welcoming old and new players, families, members and supporters back to the club.
There is a lot happening, there is plenty still to do, and there is an exciting season ahead.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the committee and the club during these first few weeks.
Here's to the 2026/27 season and the next chapter of Old Cryptians RFC.
