Message from the Club Chairman
Myself and both club committees are working closely with the local community of Hempsted to provide facilities for all in these very testing times.
We are an organisation with variety in our membership, the Covid 19 virus does not differentiate on who we are, who you are, where you live or what you do. As a club we have respect and responsibility for ourselves and our team mates and club members now and in the past. That responsibility now extends in the same way the Gordon League clubs started in the late 1800βs. We are determined to help those less fortunate than ourselves and keep our club spirit alive and spread the good intentions of our members, past, present and future.
This message will go out to all our current members, former players, Vice Presidents, sponsors, fishermen, and all volunteers who support and run our ancient organisation.
We are letting you know because there will be a shout for volunteers to help those less fortunate or able. This is a co-ordinated effort with the RFU, St Swithuns and local community residents.
Please let me know if you can help in any way and we will filter you to the volunteers planners, of which we are one.
We will host our indoor space initially for a place to come for those who have school dinners as Hempsted School closes this weekend to all but the children of designated key workers. The next steps may include staffing a βfood bankβ at the club.
Our green space will be used, in accord with medical guidelines on distancing, for family exercise opportunities. The mental health and wellbeing of ourselves and community run closley with exercise as recognised by our Rugby club governing body the RFU and many wider observers.
This is a live and developing situation which we will stay active and inform you upon.
Kind regards
Nigel McMahon
GLRFC Chairman
