Tomorrow the women start their league campaign with a home fixture against Okehampton.

Just a few short months but a huge effort from Cullompton Rangers Football Club and club officials & we are here. An incredible amount of work & we'd like to thank all involved in getting our girls on the pitch & playing competitively. We will try to reward your support & make it all worthwhile.

LAKESIDE 2 CULLOMPTON 7

A wet and dreary afternoon - quite nice to feel cool for once - as we travelled down to Marjon University for our final pre-season friendly against similar tier level Lakeside.

Lakeside are a game and battling team who never let their heads drop and dug in despite our girls getting a comfortable looking result. They scored first and last and made us work hard for this victory, our first of the season.

We played really, really well today, playing out from the back, across the line and down the channels, using the ball wisely, making the most of the pitch width.
We broke their attacking line several times with great runs from defence or good quality passing into midfield. Really good to see & hopefully nice for the spectators to watch.

We had 4 different goal scorers, Niamh (2) Ella (2) Alicia (2) and Lily all scoring different types of goals, penalty, tap ins, outside the box, individual goals - but we also created very many chances as well and could have had 3 or 4 more.

But the defence was the base from all of our good work today. Marianne and Freya worked well in the centre back positions with Tilly & Jaz bringing or passing the ball out through midfield.

Braunton 7 Cullompton 1

A long trip through holiday traffic to what looks like, from the numbers above, a pointless exercise. However as most people know the scoreline doesn't always tell the full story.

Bare 11 players, only 2 recognised defenders playing a team from a division up on a sweltering hot day. Yet we scored another great goal, hit the bar & narrowly missed a few other chances.

The spirit was relentless, no heads dropped, effort maintained at 100% from start to finish.

We have now an established formation and line up (when everyone is available) the league fixtures are ahead of us and we are raring to go.

One more pre-season match down in Lakeside before the serious stuff begins!
