Well, it's been another action packed week of bowls here at Tiverton Canal, firstly our unbadged triple of Phil Atkins, Dan Burt and Ian Sexton, continued their incredible form to literally blow their opponents from Exonia away (See attached photos), to reach the semi final v a team from Yelverton on the 13th Sept @ Culm Vale (10am) with the Final scheduled for 1.30pm on the same day.
In other news, as anticipated, it was a very very exciting, nail biting finish even, in the East of Exe League with three teams all vying for the title. Canal were just 1 point ahead of second placed Ottery and third placed Culm Vale. In the end, Canal came so agonisingly close, but a tally of 9 Points against Tiverton West End proved insufficient to get us across the line, as Ottery, who already had a better shot difference, gained 10 points in their last match v Honiton to go level on 99 Points but it was enough to win, with a +29 shots difference. Culm Vale also just missed out by shot difference as they too, picked up 10 points against Bradninch, to finish on 99 points. So disappointment for us at Tiverton Canal but really, it's been an exceptional campaign and it will surely hold us in good stead for the future. π
On Wednesday (20th August) Our Ladies Triples played Sidmouth Yellow at home in their WTL and came away with all 6 points with wins on both rinks, Margaret Gratton, Barbara Goss, Maggie Burnell 18 - 9, Sarah Kittow, Clare Gutteridge, Brenda Tucker, 17 - 14.
Meanwhile, also on Wednesday, in the Men's Over 60's, our Blue team, were away at Madeira, on a notoriously fast and tricky green. With continued changes, they more than surpassed themselves and came away with all 8 Points!
Kevin Lower (Skip), Kevin Finan, David Hussey 23 - 7 and Duncan Kittow (Skip) Pete Thornton, Barry Kerslake 20 - 17.
This should, in theory, ensure they keep their Division 4 status with just two matches left to play. So well done indeed!
In Division 2, our Navy side, who were currently on top, travelled to Ottery to play their 'Hawks' a strong side for sure so was likely to be tough. However, both triples managed to come away with wins to pick up another 8 Points.
Stewart Maddocks, Bob Pulsford, Tony Burgess 22 - 13 and John Gutteridge, Kevin Parkin, Dave Hoaen 18 - 12 .
This result, combined in the knowledge that third placed Ottery Buzzards, who were playing second placed Madeira, lost on both their home rinks, means that Tiverton Canal 'Navy' have sealed promotion to Division 1 for next season! Brilliant stuff!
Phew! What a week!
