We are a newly established lawn bowling Club following the merger of Tiverton Borough and Tiverton Park Bowling Clubs and is based at Tiverton Borough's old ground which is situated between The Avenue and the Grand Western Canal basin off Canal Hill Road. We are a newly formed Bowls Club following the merger of two of three historic Tiverton Bowling Clubs, Tiverton Borough and Tiverton Bowling (Pa

rk) with the former being the home for this new Club, Tiverton Canal. The idea of the merger came about when it was becoming clear that something needed to be done to avert the danger of the falling membership numbers for both Clubs in the not too distant future. With the new Club we believe we will have a much stronger foundation with renewed energy an impetus for what we strongly believe, will be a secure and successful future.

‘Friendly’ Match Report v Wellington (Away) 23rd April 2026
It was a beautiful sunny afternoon at Wellington Bowling Club though a brisk wind did it’s best to spoil things.
More significantly was the condition of the Wellington green. It was something of a surprise to see it looking in rather poor shape. Apparently, it was a result moss treatment that hadn’t worked properly due to a subsequent lack of rain. On the upside, it was quick, very quick, not at all what you’d expect at this time of year.
So there was no need to hoof the bowls down, quite opposite, so it took a few of us to settle down with weight as well as find the tricky lines. All five of our rinks fell behind early on, however all but one rink got to grips with the situation which made things look a lot closer for us and by half time, things were fairly even.
The second half saw Kevin Parkin’s side were one shot behind but managed to pick up a ‘6’ to gain a four-shot lead after fourteen and did enough to keep things tight to the finish for a 15 – 13 win.
Garfield’s side were up against throughout and despite a mini fight back to give them a slim chance at 8 – 13, couldn’t keep it going, finishing second with a 9 – 18 scoreline.
Captain Kevin Finan's triple, had a battle royale with their opponents and will surely count themselves unlucky not to come away even with a draw, having got themselves level on two occasions during their match, just losing out on the last end thanks to the Wellington skip spoiling the party, finishing 15 – 17 in their favour.
Phil Atkins and his side, put up a good fight taking the lead a couple of times early on, only to drop a ‘5’ to go 8 – 12 down. They battled back to level at 12 – 12 but unfortunately got steam-rolled over the next four ends, finishing 13 – 22 down.
Finally, John’s side looked to be in trouble after first four ends, going 0 – 5 down but once they settled down, they rallied well to go 9 – 5 after nine. Further success followed and by the fifteenth were 18 - 9 up, enabling John’s side to relax and enjoy the run in and a very pleasing, 20 – 12 win.
Result:

TCBC = 2 Wins, 3 Lost (72 Shots)
Wellington = 3 Wins, 2 Lost (82 Shots)

It was an interesting match, the conditions suited some more than others but it was a good outing for us, very enjoyable and quite close result overall. Against Wellington, at theirs, that’s an encouraging sign in my humble opinion - Bandits or not bandits. 🤠

Back from the 'Friendly' match away @ Ottery St Mary – 21st April 2026

Our first away day of the season, at Otterly as usual, where we often have to battle the elements as well as a competitive side. This time, the elements were relatively kind to us, except for the cold wind, but Ottery, well, put it this way, they gave us a good test, as we anticipated?
Like the sun, we started brightly to put us in an overall lead. But like the clouds. Ottery began to shade things but primarily on what was seemingly, a ‘loaded’ rink which happened to be against an unfortunate Bob Pulsford side. Practically, whenever Bob’s side were holding, Ottery would sn**ch the shot away whilst Bob himself, did well on a number of occasions to cut scores against, down but he will still feel sore after a heavy defeat, 2 – 30.
Kevin Parkin’s side had one of those, what might have been results, going 9 – 4 up after ten ends only to see the match slip away to finish 3 shots behind, 12 – 15.
Garfield’s side battled well, having been 4 – 9 down after seven, they gained some momentum to go 13 – 11 up after fourteen ends only to then find themselves 13 – 16 down with one end to go. But they did well at the end, picking up a ‘3’ on the last to finish level 16 – 16.
John’s side got off to an encouraging start, picking up a ‘6’ early on, before going 11 – 1 up after six ends. Further success saw them move on to a 19 – 4 lead after twelve and managed to keep their opponents at arm’s length, to finish 24 – 8, not qute enough to offset Bob's score (sorry Bob 😕).

Result:
TCBC = 1 Win, 1 Draw 2 Lost (54 Shots)
Ottery = 2 Wins, 1 Draw, 1 Lost (69 Shots)

All in all, it was a very good outing for Tiverton Canal against a very good side on a very nice green. Yes, it was rather chilly but it was dry and the sun did make an appearance or two, so a very good introduction to the new outdoor season showing that we are generally, not far off the pace.

TCBC 'Members' Opening Day - 11th April 2026

The sun is out, the green is green (that's official from our green keepers) so we are looking forward to seeing new and existing members coming to Tiverton Canal's (Members) opening day on Saturday the 11th April.
Proceedings will begin from 2pm but do come along a bit earlier to help get things organised in good time and to sort out your membership payments and any kit requirements etc.

Anyone who may be interested in joining the club would be welcome to come along to meet club members and see our facilities, perhaps with a view to trying out the green on a more suitable/later date? 🙂

One thing's for sure, it's going to be a great season ahead! (That's also official) 😎

Tiverton Canal BC entered a rink consisting of; Jean Mitchell, John Gutteridge, Maggie Burnell and Stewart Maddocks, in Mid Devon's (MDIBC) Charity Day Tournament on Saturday (14th Feb), with this year's donations going to 'Balloons' a local charity that supports bereaved children and young adults. The tournament consisted of four teams from Mid Devon, ourselves and three other rinks from; Crediton, South Molton and Tiverton West End. Tiverton Canal started well, beating a Mid Devon side, over four ends, skipped by Phil Murphy and then went on to win their next two. There was then a break before playing the last, where we came unstuck against another Mid Devon side, this time skipped by Maureen Lewis, who thwarted us on two or three occasions.
So three Wins from four, not bad but was it enough? We heard Phil Murphy's side went on to win their next three so it was looking doubtful as our scores were on the lower side. But, no, that first win against Phil M appeared to swing it in our favour and we came away with the winners Shield 🛡🏆 A great afternoon and an excellent team performance overall and it was all for a very cause too 🎈🎈🎈 😃
