NEWS UPDATE
This is to confirm that Tiverton Borough Bowling Club has now officially dissolved along with Tiverton Park Bowling Club with the two historic Clubs merging to become one new Club under the name of TIVERTON CANAL BOWLING CLUB.
This move came about to address the sad reality of membership numbers becoming smaller as the years pass. Despite great efforts to attract new members by both clubs, there simply have not been sufficient numbers coming in to suggest a secure a long term future and the ability to improve and develop Club facilities etc. This was the case for both clubs so, despite the great sadness to effectively lose our two historic Bowling Clubs, it was felt it would be wise to work towards providing a secure future of at least one by merging our two clubs for strength and stability, both in the running of the Club and on the green itself of which we are all excited about.
Tiverton Canal Bowling Club will be based at the old Tiverton Borough address but it will now be given a new lease of life with the combined help of all our members with much work already started on the green itself, much improved in recent years thanks to Chris Hutter and team, the ambitious aim now to get it back to the sort of playing condition that made the green one of the best in the County of Devon some fifty or sixty years ago.
In the meantime we thank everyone for their support over the years here on FB and hope you will be happy to do the same in our new guise TIVERTON CANAL BOWLING CLUB https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61567674562264 . Thank you 😎

We are a newly established lawn bowling Club following the merger of Tiverton Borough and Tiverton Park Bowling Clubs and is based at Tiverton Borough's old ground which is situated between The Avenue and the Grand Western Canal basin off Canal Hill Road.

Hot off the Press! The very most latest of East of Exe Tables.
Yes, it's getting exciting at the very top with Ottery St Mary storming into top spot after a resounding and rather damp win at home to down and out Tiverton Borough πŸ˜ͺ but surely Culm Vale can storm back as all they need is 2 Points given their much lower shots against tally?
Otherwise it looks like all other key positions are finalised so it's congrats to the Honiton (Division B Champions) and surely Bradninch, who climb into that boiling cauldron of Division A whilst Hemyock slip down along with Borough (soon to be called Tiverton Canal Bowling Club) into the more tepid environment of Division B. 😎

Match Report – 14th August 2024

Over 60's 'Gold' v Seaton β€˜B’ match

Weather: Earlier cloudiness soon dispersing to allow for a warm and sunny afternoon with a cooling breeze.

Green; Looked very good, quicker than Monday evening after recent cut, played well although lines were not so easy to read, very swingy on one hand whilst the other, narrower side, seemed to vary considerably.

Rink 1 – Chris Hutter/Kevin Finan/Pete Chidgey (Skip)
Rink 2 – Phil Brooker/Kevin Parkin/John Gutteridge (Skip)

This was one of those crunch matches with Tiverton Borough β€˜Gold’ on top and Seaton just 9 Points behind. Early signs were not promising for Borough, both triples going behind, John’s being hit with a β€˜5’ after Jack got moved on the second end which was far from ideal.
After five ends John’s side found themselves 3 – 8 down but then got into a nice rhythm to secure five ends on the bounce that included an excellent β€˜5’ and a β€˜4’ mainly thanks to both Phil and Kevin coming up with the goods. This run, plus two more ends that included another β€˜4’, resulted in a 21 – 9 lead with just five ends remaining.
Meanwhile, Pete’s triple, who were holding their own for a time, 6 – 6 after eight ends saw their opponents first bag β€˜2’ only to leap menacingly ahead by gleefully grabbing β€˜6’, putting them 6 – 14 up after ten. Crucially, Borough regained some ground over the next two ends and by the fourteenth they had narrowed things down to 12 – 16 which, combined with John’s score at the time, was very promising.
However, the excitement was not over, on rink 2, Seaton’s Skip (Peter Grigg) came into his own and after picking up β€˜3’ his side went on to take the next three ends, closing the gap on John’s rink to just β€˜5’ shots, 21 - 16.
Meanwhile, Pete’s triple were now tightening things up to nullify their opponents, securing three singles in the process over the last three ends to finish a creditable 15 - 17.
This coincided with a final single for John’s triple who finished 22 – 16 thus enabling Borough β€˜Gold’ to win overall by β€˜4’ shots and come away very pleasingly with 6 Points. It was another great encounter played in a very good spirit that could have gone either way - an excellent afternoon!

This result now means that Borough β€˜Gold’ just 4 Points from their last two matches, next week at home against bottom Club Madeira and the following week away against fourth placed Budleigh Otters, to secure top spot and with it, promotion into Division 2 for next season! 😎

Here's the most latest East of Exe Tables for those who are keen to check on positions. This will exclude Tiverton Borough members despite the all night celebrations of winning two rinks at Seaton this week for our bestest points haul of 4 😎 Seriously, we only lost by 5 shots overall so we are getting there is just a shame we've only the two matches remaining 😟

Tiverton Borough 'Maroon's will be aiming to do similar against South Molton 'B' when they come to Tiverton on the 21st - C'mon the Borough - you can do it!! 😎

Latest Over 60's - Division 3 Table with Tiverton Borough 'Gold' keeping themselves 8 points ahead after what turned out to be a close finish at Cullompton last week - both triples getting over the line first after a late surge from the home sides. Next up we have Phear Park 'A' at home on Wednesday so obviously we'll hope to keep the momentum going 😎.

East of Exe League - Latest Tables. OK at first glance it's not looking great for Tiverton Borough Bowling Club but then, another way of looking at it, Borough are at the halfway point between the two Divisions bit of a leap but visually it works for me 😎
Meanwhile Ottery St Mary are battling out with Tiverton West End for top spot in Div A whilst Bradninch look many yards ahead in Div B but then they have somehow managed to of played 12 matches, four more than second placed Wellington πŸ€” Still it's all to play for, well perhaps except for us at Borough who play for pride, still something worth fighting for 😎.

Friendly Match Report – 13th July 2024
TBBC v Honiton (Away) 4 x Triples

Weather: Very dark clouds above and all around with some rain soon arriving but thankfully not for too long. Some brightness broke through but it remained mostly dank and on the cool side.
Green: Similar in appearance to Borough’s, I felt, a reasonable pace but there were some quirky lines and one or two lumps and bumps.

Rink 1 saw Kevin Finan, Pete Thornton and Bev Burgess up against a side who were very comfortable on their home green and limited Borough to slim pickings, 4 - 12 down at the Tea break. Honiton remained unyielding for the next five ends, going 4 – 21 up so it would have been a great relief to see a mini run of three ends, finally go Kevin’s way, to finish a respectable second, 9 – 21.

Rink 2 Skipper by Phil Saunders with Lesley Finan and Lloyd Daniels enjoyed early success to go 6 – 1 up but their opponents fought back securing four ends to go 6 – 8 up after ten ends. Borough and Phil in particular, were fired up and they dug deep to dominate the rest of the second half, finishing an impressive 20 – 10.

Rink 3 with Skip John Gutteridge, Tony Burgess and Rod Snell lead, settled well and a β€˜5’ on the sixth rocked their opponents with the score suddenly at 8 – 2. The Honiton side knuckled down though and they regained some ground, closing to just β€˜2’ shots only for John’s side to surge ahead winning three ends including a second β€˜5’ to go 16 – 6 after twelve. The last few ends were hotly contested but Borough held their own to complete a 21 – 11 win.

Rink 4 had Kevin Lower skip initially with Maggie Drew and Colin Kane and they did well to keep close with their Honiton opponents, 5 – 8 after nine ends, having earlier dropped a β€˜4’ on the third. The second half saw an unplanned change to Borough’s side, Maggie kindly making way for Ray Cottrell to play but unfortunately, they immediately dropped a β€˜4’ to really give themselves an uphill task. But the Borough lads kept going and they started to make inroads into the deficit and were 11 – 15 with two ends to go. Unfortunately, a β€˜2’ against looked to put the match out of reach, needing an unlikely β€˜7’ to secure the win but, Kevin and his side were not far off from pulling it off, they picked up a β€˜5’ for a great finish, and key in the final analysis, just losing out by a single shot, 16 – 17.

TBBC = 2 Winning Rinks (66 Shots)
Honiton = 2 Winning Rinks (60 Shots)

A good afternoon was had by all despite the gloomy weather and a welcome positive result for Borough who have struggled a bit on their travels more often than not this season so far. Onwards and upwards! 😎
