What do you learn when you support someone with a long-term health condition?
Patience, perseverance and proactive living in an unpredictable situation that leaves each day feeling more precious than the last.
Decades long and life defining, I’ve been putting that apprenticeship to good use over the past five years.
We have raised in excess of £1,000 for the St Andrews Dialysis Unit through our Crail community chair yoga class, developed optimistic practices for people experiencing chronic health transitions and treatments, and found inclusive ways to help them remain part of the bigger picture as they navigate change.
In 2026, Parkinson’s Retreats Italy became a place to pour personal research into further purpose, with a sharp learning curve that has stimulated my interest.
Long Term Conditions Hebrides is the most recent organisation to include me in their programming, and I am delighted to say that the online space has allowed me to connect with their community across the islands.
September in Umbria will be wonderful, I’m sure, but with this work comes a sense of commitment that doesn’t switch off at 5pm.
For all the challenges, tears and sadness, the rewards of making even a small difference continue to motivate me and move me to action.
