Cheltenham Running Club

Cheltenham Running Club We help people get fit, beat personal best times and make new friends for life. Come and try us out We now offer walking group sessions too!

Cheltenham Running Club was founded in response to increasing demand for running groups which educate, support and inspire their members. We set up a progressive programme which takes members from one pace group to the next every 13 weeks. Our Beginners groups have been extremely popular due to the emphasis on correct pacing and having a couch to 5k plan catering to those who have been unable to j

og for as little as 30 seconds. We now target popular events from 5k to Half Marathon so members get to warm up together, support one another at the events and take loads of photos with their medals at the end. Personal best times are common due to the emphasis on training for long term benefits, not just to beat other club members. We have three intake periods per year, when beginners and new runners get to try us out before deciding whether to join. Our first online Beginner Runners Course was launched in 2017 in response to the demand for guiding people to 5k when they cannot attend club runs. Our aim is to help more people enjoy their experience of outdoor exercise.

Your running routine does not have to mean repeating the same route every week.

Alongside regular local group sessions, CRWC's Saturday Adventure Runs take runners to rotating Cotswold locations and give the week a different kind of challenge.

They are a chance to visit rotating Cotswold locations while running with other people and enjoying the social side of the club.

That variety matters. Structured sessions can support your running goals, while Adventure Runs keep the experience fresh and give you more reasons to get out.

The next running intake starts on Monday 14 September.

Run Cheltenham is now 2 weeks away.

This is the time to start thinking seriously about your target race pace.

Not your dream pace.

Not the pace you wish you could hold.

The pace that your training suggests is realistic.

Look back at your recent long runs and ask:

What pace did I actually hold?
How did it feel?
Did I finish strongly?
Was the route similar?
Was the weather similar?
Could I have kept going?

Your race-day pace should come from evidence.

The more honest you are now, the better your chance of finishing strongly.

Before autumn gets busy and the evenings start drawing in, there is real value in having your running routine already in place.

Running with other people helps turn a good intention into something you actually do. There is encouragement when the week feels full, accountability when motivation dips, and a familiar group waiting for you.

It is also a good way to meet people outside your usual routine and make new friends through something active and positive.

If you are an established runner, or returning after time away, our September running intake is designed to help you find that rhythm again.

It starts on Monday 14 September.

Run Cheltenham is now just over 2 weeks away.

Soon, the goal will shift from building fitness to arriving fresh.

That does not mean stopping completely.

It means gradually reducing the training stress so your body has time to absorb the work you’ve done.

A good taper should leave you feeling slightly restless, not exhausted.

If you feel like you want to do more, that’s often a sign it’s working.

The biggest mistake now is trying to prove fitness too close to race day.

You have done the work you have done.

The next job is to protect it.

Want to improve your running, but find that every week looks different?

One of the benefits of joining a running club is that the week can have more shape to it.

Our current running schedule includes interval training, even-paced group runs and Saturday Adventure Runs.

That gives you different ways to train: purposeful changes of pace, steady running alongside other people, and Saturday Adventure Runs adding variety to the week.

You do not have to choose between improvement and enjoyment. A good club routine can make room for both.

The next running intake starts on Monday 14 September.

Tonight’s interval session from the Pump Room in Pittville Park saw everyone take on a descending pyramid, working from longer four-minute efforts down to sharp one-minute finishes, with controlled two-minute moving recoveries throughout.

A great session of building effort, staying consistent and finishing strong.

Tomorrow night we’re back at 7 pm in Bishop’s Cleeve for our first tempo run of the week.

Comment “trial” if you’d like to learn about our upcoming intake, where you can try all of our different session types over a three-week period.

Summer has a way of loosening even the best running routine.

If you are an established or returning runner and your runs have become more occasional over the holidays, September is a good time to put a bit of structure back around them.

Running with CRWC gives you regular sessions, people to run with and a reason to turn up when motivation is not doing all the work.

The aim is not to arrive perfect. It is to build a rhythm that helps you keep moving and make steady progress.

Our next running intake starts on Monday 14 September.
