Cheam Cricket Club

Cheam Cricket Club Cheam Cricket Club, established in 1864, was the host to the first ever cricket match hosted in colour (BBC2 1968).

Since then, the club has gone from strength to strength and is very successful both on and off the pitch.

🏆 Award-winning news for Cheam Cricket Club! Our Chairman, Safeer Butt, was named Unsung Hero at the Cricket Collective Awards 2026, held at the Kia Oval and hosted by the Surrey Cricket Foundation.

The judges' citation put it well: Safeer is "an outstanding volunteer whose leadership, selflessness and unwavering commitment" helped safeguard the future of Cheam Cricket Club "during an exceptionally challenging period," ensuring opportunities for players — particularly junior members — were preserved and the club could keep thriving.

Safeer was quick to say this is a team award, not an individual one — accepted on behalf of everyone who gives their time to this club. Thank you to our committee, Nas Sayed, Ali Hasan and Momen Hoque, our captains, and every member and volunteer who's kept Cheam CC moving this year.

A big thank you also to Simon Hards and the whole team at the Surrey Cricket Foundation for a brilliant evening, to the ECB and the Surrey Championship for their continued support, and to every club across the league who has shown us support along the way.

Congratulations to every individual recognised on the night. Onwards. 🏏

Winter Open Day — Tuesday 6 October, Harris Academy Sutton. Watch a session, meet the coaches, ask anything. The first session is free as part of the Open Day, for prospective new members.

🔹 Juniors (school years 3–6): 6.10–7.30pm
🔹 Seniors (ages 12–16): 7.40–9.00pm
📍 Harris Academy Sutton, 2 Chiltern Road, Sutton SM2 5QP — entrance via Chiltern Road

Boys and girls train together in both sessions. Depending on the number of girls that attend each session, they may get their own group or be mixed in with similar-ability players.

We don't trial children — every child gets a place · ECB-qualified coaches · bursaries available · founded 1864.

Winter Training Block A is £150 until Wednesday 30 September, then £170. Club members pay £125 on Pitchero. Same ten Tuesday nights either way — the only difference is what you pay.

Keep them playing all winter.

The outdoor season stops this month. Cricket doesn't have to. Winter Training Block A runs every Tuesday from 6 October to 8 December — ten indoor sessions in Sutton, led by ECB-qualified coaches. Boys and girls welcome.
