A special congratulations to Ethan Cole who is the youngest Ulster Champion! On Monday the 31st of August 2026 Ethan won second place overall in the Ulster chess Championships and made the history books. Ethan is the youngest winner in the history of Ulster chess to accomplish this! Congrats Ethan!

Carrickfergus Community Chess Club returns for our second season on Tuesday 15th September run as a community initiative by Carrickfergus Community Church, we are back at the Open Door Centre on Bridewell Drive every Tuesday with extended hours from 6.30pm to 9pm

Whether you are completely new to the game or an experienced player looking for a competitive edge, there is a space here for you

Session Details:
* 6.30pm to 8.00pm: Open session for all ages and abilities
* 8.00pm to 9.00pm: Timed sessions for advanced play and deeper learning

Admission is £1 for children and concessions, and £2 for adults

Please note that all children must be accompanied by an adult

Come along for a welcoming evening of community, solidarity, and good chess

Brilliant night at Carrickfergus McDonald’s for our chess meet up. A massive thank you to the staff for being so welcoming and looking after us all so well.

We had such a good time together that we have decided to make it a weekly thing for the rest of the month. We will be meeting up every Thursday from 7 until 9pm.

Everyone is welcome to come along whether you are a seasoned player or just starting out. Come join us for some great games and good craic. See you all next week.

International Chess Day at Carrickfergus Community Chess Club 🖤💛

Today we mark International Chess Day, a time to celebrate the game that brings us together.

Chess is far more than just a pastime. It is a tool for building community, fostering solidarity, and creating a space where everyone is treated with dignity regardless of background or skill level. While our club is taking a short break over the summer, our commitment to building those vital independent support networks remains stronger than ever.
