🚨 Drowning Isn't a Swimming Problem. It's a National Safety Problem.
This week, we've seen yet more tragic reports of lives lost in the water.
Some were linked to cold water shock. Some were strong, fit individuals. Some simply didn't realise the danger until it was too late.
Behind every headline is a devastated family.
The question we should be asking isn't:
"Why did this happen?"
It's:
"Why are we allowing it to keep happening?"
In Wales, too many children leave primary school without the ability to swim confidently or float effectively.
Yet swimming is one of the very few activities that can genuinely save a life.
We teach maths. We teach English. We teach science.
But the skill that could stop a child drowning?
Many children receive only a handful of swimming lessons during their entire school life.
That needs to change.
We need action.
🏊 More school swimming lessons.
🏊 Guaranteed access to swimming for every child.
🏊 Investment in local pools instead of closures.
🏊 Water safety and floating skills taught from an early age.
🏊 Removal of VAT on swimming lessons so providers can keep lessons affordable and more families can access them.
Because right now, swimming lessons are treated like a luxury.
They aren't.
Swimming is a life-saving skill.
No child should miss out because their family cannot afford lessons.
No parent should have to worry that their child wouldn't know what to do if they fell into water.
And no family should lose a loved one because we failed to prioritise water safety.
At Cwac Cwac's, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn how to swim, float, and stay safe around water.
This isn't about building future Olympians.
It's about making sure more children come home safely.
