⚫️📅Caerphilly Social v Thomastown PGE Div 8 Sat 13/06/26📅⚫️

Caerphilly Social - 66 shots (2pts)
Thomastown - 97 shots (12pts)
It was a pleasure to welcome Thomastown to Caerphilly Social Bowls Club today for our first ever meeting between the two clubs.

After a few days of challenging weather with plenty of rain and wind, it was great to finally enjoy some warm sunshine for a game of bowls. Thomastown arrived with a strong side and made the perfect start, quickly building up a lead across all four rinks. By the halfway stage, they had established advantages of at least 10 shots on each rink.

The Social team responded brilliantly and showed great character, fighting back strongly in the second half. One rink managed to secure a well-earned victory by three shots, while two others reduced their losing margins down to just three and five shots. Unfortunately, Thomastown’s fourth rink proved too strong on the day and finished with a 26-shot winning margin, which helped secure the overall result for the visitors.

Despite the scoreline, it was a really enjoyable afternoon of bowls, played in great spirit. A big thank you to Thomastown for making the journey and it was fantastic to see them bring so many young bowlers along for today’s match — a great sign for the future of the sport.

We wish Thomastown all the best for the rest of their season and look forward to meeting again.

For us, it’s back on Wednesday evening when we welcome Llanbradach to Caerphilly for our RVBA Super5 League Cup fixture.

Well played everyone 👏👏

Tomorrow we host Thomastown B.C. who we haven't played for many years. We look forward to an enjoyable afternoon.

We had a visit to the green yesterday from a dozen members of the Aber Valley Men's Shed group.

The club does some fantastic work supporting mental health through shared activities, volunteering, gardening, and community projects. Recent projects have included cleaning up their local splash park, painting fences, and helping to maintain the Windsor Colliery Memorial Garden. It's a brilliant initiative and a great example of people giving something back to their local community.

It was an absolute pleasure to spend time with them all. There were plenty of laughs throughout the session as they got to grips with the basics of bowls. It didn't take them long to pick things up, and before we knew it they were bowling like seasoned pros and getting nicely competitive over the scores! To top it all off, one of the group had even made a trophy, which was presented to their highest-scoring player on the day.

We hope you all enjoyed yourselves as much as we did. Hopefully Andrew had a great birthday too and enjoyed celebrating later with the group over a meal at Wetherspoon's in Caerphilly.

Thanks again for coming along, lads. We'd love to see you back at the club again later in the season. You were a fantastic group and a credit to the Men's Shed. 👍🏆🎳

⚫️📅Ystrad Mynach ‘A’ v Caerphilly Social – RVL Wed 03/06/26📅⚫️

Ystrad Mynach ‘A’ – 67 shots (10pts)
Caerphilly Social – 59 shots (4pts)
This evening we made the short journey across to Ystrad Mynach Bowling Club to play our near neighbours in a Div 2 RV League match.
The company was excellent as always, but unfortunately the weather wasn’t the best. It was extremely windy, and at one point I could swear the house from the Wizard Of Oz landed in the next field !! 🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️
Both sides battled courageously in the conditions, and going into the final end it was a really tense affair as the scores were level.
Ystrad played some excellent shots in the final end which saw them run out the winners by scoring 8 shots more than the Social on the 18th end.
It was an enjoyable game but we were all pleased to get back in the clubhouse to apply large amounts of hair lacquer to get our hair back down and to try to look presentable when the ladies brought out the much needed sausage and chips to warm us back up.
I can’t believe we’ve got to do this all over again with them next Wednesday when the return fixture has to be played.
Thankfully we’re a bit nearer to the Equator than Ystrad, so hopefully we’ll have calmer weather at home. 😂

We’ll look forward to seeing you next week guys.

⚫️📅Pontrhydyfen v Caerphilly Social PGE Div 8 Sat 30/05/26📅⚫️

Pontrhydyfen - 107 shots (14 pts)
Caerphilly Social – 44 shots (0pts)

Today saw Caerphilly Social make the journey west to Port Talbot for our first ever meeting with Pontrhydyfen Bowls Club.

We were treated to a beautiful sunny afternoon, with the greens looking superb and the weather providing perfect conditions for a game of bowls 🌞. Just as warm as the sunshine was the welcome we received from our hosts, who made us feel at home from the moment we arrived 🍻.
On the green, we put in a performance that we were pleased with and played well by our own standards throughout the afternoon. However, Pontrhydyfen proved to be a very skilful and talented side, consistently demonstrating their quality and making the most of the conditions.
Our opposition were comfortable winners on the day, finishing with an overall score of 107 shots to 44 and collecting all 14 points available. While the scoreline reflected the quality of the home side, there were still plenty of positive moments for Caerphilly Social, with everyone battling hard throughout the match.
Despite the result, it was an enjoyable and competitive afternoon played in excellent spirit by both teams. It was a pleasure to visit a club we had never played before, and we would like to thank everyone at Pontrhydyfen for their hospitality and sportsmanship.
We wish our new friends at Pontrhydyfen all the very best for the rest of the season and look forward to welcoming them to Caerphilly later in the year.
