Boxford Rovers Football Club Boxford Rovers Football Club was founded in 1977 and disbanded its adult section in 2015.

There is a project underway to revitalise and restart the club for the 2022/23 with aspirations to play in the Border League. The club is sadly now located in Nayland due to lack of appropriate facilities at Boxford Homefields.

Saturday's man of the match for a string of 1-1 point blank saves against Tiptree Jobserve is Mat Woods. Without his heroics the scoreline would be very different. Other players that received votes were Freddie Bagrie and Alfie Haygreen. Top work everyone! 👏 💙❤️🤍

BOXFORD ROVERS 3-5 TIPTREE JOBSERVE

A game of two halves at Homefield as Rovers paid the price for a dreadful opening twenty minutes, conceding twice inside nine minutes before Luke Mallinson pulled one back.

Two further Tiptree goals left Boxford trailing 1-4 at the break, with injuries to Thom Chance and Mallinson adding to the problems.

But Rovers came out fighting in the second half! 💪

Alfie Haygreen reduced the deficit before Tiptree restored their three-goal advantage. Lewis Sowman, already in the referee’s notebook for getting booked whilst running the line (a BRFC first!), then won and converted a penalty to make it 3-5.

Further injury to skipper Ant Pearce disrupted the home side, although Bailey Marshall impressed with an excellent second-half display at right back.

Tiptree deserved the points, but Boxford battled hard in torrential conditions and might well have snatched something on another afternoon.

Plenty of fighting spirit, but Rovers simply gave themselves too much to do.

Despite his rather controversial sending off yesterday at Thurston, Boxford's man of the match is Ben Tatum. His commanding performance at the back certainly pushed Rovers to change the course of the game after a challenging first thirty minutes. Congratulations Tat! 👍👍🔴🔵

🏆 SUFFOLK PRIMARY CUP | FIRST ROUND

Thurston Reserves 1–5 Boxford Rovers

🔴⚪ TEN-MAN ROVERS MARCH INTO ROUND TWO!

Boxford Rovers progressed to the second round of the Suffolk Primary Cup for the first time since 2022 with a superb away performance against Thurston Reserves.

Despite falling behind early on, Rovers responded brilliantly. Freddie Bagrie levelled with an absolute screamer from 25 yards before Thom Chance converted an excellent Adam Green cross to put Boxford ahead.

Controversy followed when Ben Tatum received a straight red card for a 50/50 challenge, leaving Rovers to play the majority of the match with ten men.

But if Thurston thought their numerical advantage would turn the tide, they were in for a shock!

Jack Montgomery struck twice shortly after the interval, before Alfie White marked his away debut with a well-taken fifth. In truth, Chance and Montgomery could have had five apiece, with Haygreen, Dinnell and Prentice also going close.

Thurston were themselves reduced to ten men late on following a reckless challenge on Cody Ennis-Hadley, but by then the damage was well and truly done.

Four goals with ten men, five different? No, four goalscorers, and a place in the hat for round two!

A terrific team performance from the Homefielders, who will now be looking to carry this momentum into their league campaign.
