Deficit deadlifts aren’t just deadlifts but harder.

They fix the exact part of the lift most people miss — the first few inches off the floor, where the bar has no momentum and no help from your hips.

Build strength there, and everything above it gets easier.

This is a big reason I pulled 200kg for 5 at ATHX.

Comment DEFICIT and I’ll send you how I programme it.

Different sports. Same method. Build Strength That Lasts.

From personal training, to opening a strength & conditioning gym, to 15 years as a CrossFit affiliate, to VECTIS — Latin for lift, and what we’ve always stood for.

Since stepping back from CrossFit competition, I haven’t stopped — just changed the challenge: Hyrox, trail and ultra marathons, and a 3:44 London Marathon. Strength training 3 days a week through every bit of it.

Here’s to the next 16. 💪

Wrist pain isn’t a mobility failure. It’s a gap nobody taught you to close.

3 drills I still use 16 years in — before sn**ch, OH squat, clean & jerk, or handstand work:

1️⃣ Wrist rocks (flat palm fingers forward)
2️⃣ Wrist rocks (flat palm fingers towards you)
3️⃣ Body weight wrist extension holds

2 minutes. Every session. Non-negotiable.

Wish someone had shown me this earlier instead of learning it through years of niggling pain.

Struggling with wrist pain overhead and want a plan built around it? Link in bio for online coaching. 👊

Or drop a comment with something you’re struggling with.

Zone 1/2 aerobic base — 40 minutes, non-negotiable, 3x a week.

Today’s version: rolling clock, 20cal row / 20cal bike, back and forth for the full 40.

No PRs. No sweat-angel finish. Just nose-breathing, heart rate capped, and building the engine that lets everything else — strength, conditioning, capacity — actually show up when it matters.

This is the unsexy 80% most people scroll past. It’s also why the 20% works.
