Last night we ticked off around 5 miles during a ‘Compass Run’ which is the furthest run since we began a year ago for the Monday session.

Using timed intervals, we ran out for 6 minutes before turning around and heading back, repeating it in all four directions of the compass — North, South, East and West.

If I’d told the group beforehand that they’d be running around 5 miles, I know some would have doubted they could do it.

But that’s the beauty of breaking things down into manageable chunks. You don’t have to think about the whole distance — just the next 6 minutes.

And look what you can achieve when you just focus on the bit in front of you 💪🏼

This is a type of session that can be tweaked however you like but I particularly like time as it means the faster you are, the further you go allowing everyone to take part at their own pace. Plus there is an element of strategy as noone wanted to end at the bottom off the hill to have to run back up 😜

TrailHurst | Trail Run Explorers 10k Social Run starting in Sandhurst and looping around Bodiam Castle and back.

We found all sorts of wildlife on this one! Pretty sure we saw a partridge, we definitely saw a ferret plus sheep and the most beautiful wildflowers! We also stumbled upon a sunflower field 🤩 The best way to start a weekend!

This week we’re training descents.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of only focusing on improving our ability to climb hills, but being able to hammer a downhill can make trail running so much more fun.

We’ll warm up, then spend around 30 minutes hiking reps up a hill before running back down as many times as we can, followed by some strength work and a cool down.

It’s suitable for everyone, as you can complete the session according to your own ability.

If you’d like to join us, drop me a message.

August Run Locations

If you’ve not been along for a while, August is the perfect month to come back! Our sessions will have more of a training focus, but as always they’ll be based on perceived effort, making them suitable for all abilities and a great way to ease back into running.

Older children 12+ are welcome to run with us as well. If they are younger but able to complete the sessions, it will be at your own risk.

It would be so lovely to see some faces we haven’t seen for a while 🏃🏽‍♀️

🏃🏽‍♀️ 3rd – Hurst Green
🏃 10th – Johns Cross
✖️17th – No Run
🏃‍♂️ 24th – Darwell Woods
🏃🏽‍♀️ 31st – Hurst Green (Bank Holiday)

Plus a bonus run this month in collaboration with Trail-Run Explorers. We’ll be completing a 10k loop starting in Sandhurst, running to Bodiam Castle.

Happy 1st Birthday, TrailHurst Runners!

What began as an idea to give people the space and confidence to try trail running has grown into an incredible community.

It’s been amazing to make new friends, watch confidence grow, and see people who have never run before embrace it as a way to explore the incredible trails right on our doorstep.

Thank you to everyone who has joined us and here’s to another year of trails, smiles, and adventures together 🫶🏼

July is an exciting month as TrailHurst Runners turns 1 so we’ve got some extra special plans!

Mad Jacks is slightly further than our typical runs but it’s totally worth the push as there’s lots to see! This one’s about 4.5 miles but we will run the flats, enjoy the downs and hike the hills with breaks to take in the follies.

Hastings is a bit different as we will run to the seafront for chips and chill, before hiking back to the car for our birthday run.

And Burwash Woods are just magical 🧚🏽‍♀️
