🚨💚END OF SEASON - MATCHWEEK 26 & 27 RESULTS 💚🚨

Hi all, this is an end-of-season update and my final post as manager. I hope you enjoyed the weekly (fine, monthly-ish!) updates. It was fun keeping you up-to-date with the amazing work the lads have done.
With Barnham Trojans FC pulling out of our final game of the season, that means that is it. Our season is done! 27 games for our First Team, and 22 games for our Reserve Team, and you have cheered them on in every single one.
It has been an absolute honour and pleasure being Manager and First Team Coach of this great club in such an amazing village. We have had some brilliant memories these past few years, and it is all credit to the lads and our amazing support, so a big THANK YOU! I see everyone associated with the club as family and I hope I helped in some way or another, while putting a smile on your face! Seeing all my boys develop on and off the pitch with their amazing personal developments: Becoming Dads, Grooms and striving in their work careers has been brilliant. Also, their performance progressions on the pitch: Seeing their quality improve week after week has been a joy.
I cannot wait to see the next amazing moments they will produce for The Green, as a fan with the rest of you!
It has been one hell of a ride, thank you all for your amazing support.

🚨💚MATCHWEEK 25 RESULTS💚🚨

First Team: 1-1 Draw Vs Barnham Trojans (A).

We had another game come quick and fast and it was away to Barnham who we have not played yet this season. We went there with a bare and very make-shift 11, with Aaron Gumbrell doing us a huge favour by going in goal for the game! We had others who were 50-50 fitness, and some left at 7am to make the effort to turn-up and play the whole 90 minutes and I’m very thankful for that. Even with a depleted squad that didn’t change our mind-sets, knowing that we had enough quality to get a result.
The first half started fantastic with chances being created by The Green and we could feel that goal coming, and that it did! With some great attacking combination play with James Hill driving forward and finding Archie Inkster, he delivered a great ball to Callum Price who finished astutely for his 11th goal of the season! We further created in the first half and we should have been at least three goals to the good coming in at Half-Time, sadly that was not to be, but there were many positives to take.
We all understood that the next goal in this game was going to be vital so we couldn’t let our levels drop. We started the second half fantastic and carried on our high intensity, which led us to justifiably getting a two goal lead as Archie Inkster buried a rebound after a good stop by Barnham’s GK… or so we thought. 10 seconds after the ball had gone in the referee blow up for offside (?!). Barnham’s own club linesman did not raise his flag and said we were onside but the referee ignored that and awarded the offside, we couldn’t believe it.
The next ten minutes was difficult for The Green, struggling to understand what just happened, Barnham took advantage and levelled through a set-piece, after a great initial save from Gumbrell it was sadly followed in by their attacking player.
The lads rallied again but with bare 11 it was tough. We had our chances to sn**ch it at the end but sadly could not convert.
Every single player in Green today ran their heart out for the club and that’s all we can ask for. Well deserved pints were had after the game and onwards to our final two fixtures!

MOTM: Aaron Gumbrell, for stepping-up and doing a great job in goal for us! As always this is voted by the players peers!

DOTD: Ewan Gee. His throw-in manoeuvre/technique/whatever-that-was, which resembled him proposing to all outfield players, while being on one knee to avoid giving away another foul-throw was a sight to see! The kit is his to wash this week!

SPONSORS: A massive thank you to our amazing sponsors; Sports Stars UK, BII.AERO and AJW Aviation.

🚨💚MATCHWEEK 22, 23, 24 RESULTS💚🚨

Hi all! Please see below our latest round-up from results we have had in the last week. A lot of games have been crammed in before the end of the season so the lads have worked their socks off!

First Team: 3-1 WIN Vs Sussex Rangers (H).

We had come into this Monday morning bank holiday fixture with a point to prove. After getting narrowly beaten by Billingshurst away from home in which we believe we deserved a point and conceding defeat to Harting, we wanted to get back to winning ways and needed to fast!
We welcomed Sussex Rangers to The Green this Easter Monday raring to go and start our final run-in with a bang… AND THAT’S WHAT HAPPENED!
Our team was far from usual with new players stepping-up and others playing out of position and that was notable in the first half. We found it difficult looking after the ball and creating attacks and our defensive intensity was not at the required levels. This led to sloppy play and resulted in Sussex Rangers taking the lead, seeing us go in down at the break.
Honest, but most importantly, positive discussions were had in the changing room. The lads knew if we switch-on and play to the best our best abilities we will get back in this game and go on to win.
Right from the start of the second-half there was a noticable difference in bite and intensity from The Green. Eric Geddes noticeably winning duals in the middle of the park got the tempo higher and before we knew it we were back level! Tom Alexander shot a strong direct free-kick into a crowd of players, and Callum Price got a toe on it which ended up in the net! However, there has been some debate on whether or not Pricey did indeed get a touch, but after a players vote he was awarded the goal! He got his second a few moments later with another poacher instincts finish! He rounded-off his hat-trick with a penalty in the 90th minute. The comeback was complete! Sussex Rangers saw their side receive 2 red cards in the final moments which added to their misery. We made hard work of it but job done by The Green!

MOTM: Hat-trick hero, Callum Price!
DOTD: Louis Hartley, after having to have his mum wake him up to get to the game 10 minutes before kick-off!

SPONSORS: A massive thank you to our amazing sponsors; Sports Stars UK, BII.AERO and AJW Aviation.

🚨💚MATCHWEEK 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 RESULTS💚🚨

Hi all! It’s been a while… again! Apologies for the lack of updates from The Mighty Green! With the quick-fire fixtures it’s been difficult to keep consistent updates, but we’re back with our latest round-up!

First Team: 2-0 WIN Vs Petworth (H).

We had been without a win in 4 games against strong opponents (Delunited, Rudgwick, Billingshurst & Watersfield). Every single one of those games was a battle. In some we were very unlucky at times to not come away with at-least a point, and other games we got what we deserved. However, these results didn’t lead to the lads moping and feeling sorry for themselves, as we knew the only way out of this rut was with hard-work and togetherness. Last night we hosted a decent and solid Petworth side where we were looking to get back to winning ways to leave us in good stead for the rest of the season… AND THAT’S WHAT HAPPENED! The game was always going to be a battle as with Monday Night Football that comes with injures from the previous Saturday and work commitments for players, but the lads didn’t let that deter them from putting in an incredible team performance. Archie Inkster opened the scoring after fantastic work from Harry Hunter beating a couple of opponents and delivering a great through ball which Archie finished coolly. We were 2 nil up 10 minutes later after we pressed the opposition high and a freak own-goal occurred after we put a dangerous ball in their penalty area. The second-half saw a nasty head-collision with our captain Taylor Moreton and an opposing player. Our Taylor is OK thankfully and best wishes to the Petworth player! A resilient defensive display followed from The Green in which we were strong and determined to close out with clean sheet and 3 massive points, which were more than deserved.

MOTM: Luke Brazier & Luke Macdonald with tremendous defensive displays!
DOTD: Harry Hunter (shock!) for his eyebrow statement piece! Reminiscent of Mohawk Becks!

Reserves: 3-2 WIN Vs West Chiltington (H).

After having to unfortunately abandon games due to squad availability the reserves got their game they deserved and were raring to go to get those 3 points… AND THATS WHAT HAPPENED! The Green started off strong and fast as Tom Cottrell opened the scoring with a composed finish to put Wisborough 1 nil to the good. The visitors got back into the game with a goal themselves. Then, after great attacking play from The Green, the ball was whipped across the opposing goal-line begging someone to get on the end of it, and 16 year old Tom Knott was there! Bagging his first goal in adult men’s football! Tom Cottrell completed his brace with another well crafted goal. Oli Bradley nearly got his first for The Green with a well directed header but was sadly well stopped by their goalkeeper. The visitors got one back late-on but with solid defensive quality The Green held-on to collect a well deserved 3 points!

MOTM: Tom Cottrell & Eric Geddes for their tremendous performances!
DOTD: Matt Corbey with a miscalculation of a West Chiltington free-kick!

SPONSORS: A massive thank you to our amazing sponsors; Sports Stars UK, BII.AERO and AJW Aviation.

🟢🚨IMPORTANT POST ALERT🚨🟢

As the majority of you may know, our number 9, Callum Price, is a fantastic footballer for us here at Wisborough Green FC and has thankfully been for many years now, being pivotal in our past successes, and will be for our big successes going forward!

However, his tremendous footballing ability is not the only thing which makes him so loved in the village… he is most importantly a great person.

On March 29th 2025, he is taking part in a charity boxing bout in memory of his little sister, Milly. The funds raised will go to Sussex Snowdrop Trust who helped support his family throughout Milly’s life. Please find the link below to donate and/or share for an amazing cause.

🚨💚MATCHWEEK 14, 15 & 16 RESULTS💚🚨

Hi all! It’s been a while… again! Apologies for the lack of updates from The Mighty Green! With the pitch situation and also scattered games it’s been difficult to keep consistent updates, but we’re back… and into the Semi-Finals!

First Team: 2-1 WIN Vs Fishbourne (H).

After two disappointing results against Delunited & Rudgwick we hosted Fishbourne today in a Malcolm Simmonds Memorial Cup Quarter-Final clash at The Green with the aim of getting into the Semis-Finals… AND THAT’S WHAT HAPPENED. The game was always going to be a battle with the conditions of The Green, but the lads didn’t let that deter them from putting in an incredible team performance. Taylor Moreton opened the scoring with a fantastic free-kick, which was sadly caught on camera, so we won’t be seeing the last of the attached video, that’s for sure! Luke Brazier then put us two goals to the good with a beautiful timed and directed header from a Taylor Moreton corner. The visitors put pressure on, but Conor Blanchard was on brilliant form today making some great stops. The away side were awarded a penalty which they slotted away late on but The Mighty Green were resilient and held on to move on to the next round! The lads work-rate and team effort was great and they all should be very proud of themselves!

MOTM: Taylor Moreton, with an incredible captains performance.
DOTD: Conor Blanchard, for checking a bet at Half-Time & letting the whole squad know about it… at least it won!!!

SPONSORS: A massive thank you to our amazing sponsors; Sports Stars UK, BII.AERO and AJW Aviation!

Special Mentions: Taylor Moreton & Callum Price for working on the pitch this morning so that we were able to play today and celebrate this amazing win! Also, a big thanks to Amin Lofti for being such an amazing clubman and helping out with everything needed without being asked. An absolute hero who shouldn’t go unnoticed.

🚨🟢MATCHWEEK 13 RESULTS🟢🚨

First Team: 0-0 Draw Vs Fishbourne (H).

Football was finally back on The Green for the First Team since early November 2024! Going into this game, the circumstances were challenging. Due to availability we only had 11 players, 3 of those were definitely not fit enough to play the whole 90 and another stood on a nail 2 hours before kick-off! We were literally out on a limb against a difficult opponent!

However, the togetherness & quality those 11 showed on the pitch was just fantastic to see. Everyone fought for each other, communicated effectively and stuck to their roles with the upmost discipline, it was great to see the lads push themselves more than they should probably have been able to! It shows that all of the difficult situations surrounding the game, the lads still came off at the end gutted we didn’t get all 3 points, that highlights how much of a shift they all put in! UTG!

MOTM: Dan Macdonald with a fantastic display at centre-back. Assuring and commanded from the first whistle, it was a pleasure to see!

DOTD: Harry Hunter for being late, saying he got pulled over by the police, and then admitting he made it all up after getting away with it scot-free!

Reserve Team: 4-3 WIN Vs Horsham Crusaders Athletic (A).

Fantastic win for The Reserves! With three debutants, finding a way to win with an also bare 11 was absolutely amazing. Tom Knott, Robert Newell and Matt Ritchie all gave everything they could for The Green, which shows the type of characters they are! A big shout out to Amin Lofti and Brett Lovett, both over 50 and playing the whole 90 minutes is just superb. A special mention to Jared with some unreal finishing which was very much needed after going behind early doors. All 11 players should be more than proud of themselves for performing at the level they did individually but most importantly as a collective unit & team yesterday! UTG!

MOTM: Matt Ritchie for a tremendous debut, working non-stop, with high level of quality.

DOTD: Jim Foster-Hopkins. Despite his class performance (except the last two goals), he is taking DOTD for a comical slip for a throw in.

Sponsors: A massive thank you to our amazing sponsors; Sports Stars UK, BII.AERO and AJW Aviation!

🚨💚MATCHWEEK 12 RESULTS💚🚨

First Team: 4-1 loss Vs Watersfield (A).

Sadly, all good things must come to an end. Our four game winning run was lost yesterday on a torrential rainy day at Watersfield. The lads put in a shift but we did not reach our very high standards consistently enough, which we have recently been used to seeing. Having players play in new positions for the first time and having injuries early on while not having any substitutes did not help the situation either, but the lads worked hard and know there is better to come!

We will learn and develop from this! This season was always going to have ups and downs with such a new/young team but we have shown our great quality already this season and the level we are able to play at so we can only look positively and confident going into our next games! Archie Inkster added to his goal talley for the season with a great finish. A massive thank you to all that came down and supported us in the wet conditions, it really does mean a lot to all the boys! Onwards and Upwards! UTG.

DOTD: Taylor Moreton for his assist… to the opposition!

Reserve Team: 5-1 WIN Vs Chapel (H).

The Green continued their winning ways making it four on the trot against Chapel! A 5-1 victory was secured after a great display of moral and effort from all of the Wisborough lads on the pitch. Despite only having 11 men and no lines-man for the first 35mins(!) the greens managed to produce two early goals from Eric Geddes allowing them to relax a little and play the ball around in a composed fashion. This fantastically led to a third goal which saw out the first-half. The second-half turned into a slip and slide with both teams having chances. Chapel battled hard to get a goal back but it was short lived after the their defence put one in the back of their own net. After scoring a later goal The Green secured a 5-1 win and move on positively to next week!

Goal scorers: Eric Geddes x2, Harry Hunter, Benel Mear, Own-Goal. UTG.

MOTM: Eric Geddes.
DOTD: Harry Hunter, for his foul-throw!
