>The local 'Goal for Hope Tournament for 2026 needs a Football Referee !<
Last year's tournament in 2025 at Winklebury was a fantastic day, with eight teams coming together to raise awareness of Baton of Hope, Inclusion Education and su***de prevention. While the football was competitive and enjoyable, the real success was seeing players, families, volunteers, and local organisations unite behind a shared commitment to mental health, su***de prevention, and community connection.
What makes Goal for Hope particularly important is that it is now part of a much wider legacy 'Hope Basingstoke' which follows on from our Baton of Hope Basingstoke day on 25th September 2025. Since the Baton of Hope visit, that momentum has continued through initiatives including Chatty Benches, Project Iris, community partnerships, annual awareness events, and the development of a local Hope Hub. Goal for Hope has become one of the key annual community events helping to keep those conversations alive.
Sadly, su***de continues to affect far too many individuals, families, and communities. Through football's unique ability to build friendships, create belonging, and connect people from different backgrounds, Goal for Hope provides a positive and accessible way to promote wellbeing, strengthen community ties, and support su***de-prevention efforts.
7 teams are registered and hoping for 1 more. The event will take place at Winklebury Stadium next Saturday 12th September , 9am warm up and registration, 9.30 matches start and event finishes at 12.30 following an awards presentation.
If you know anyone that would be willing to referee, they would be incredibly grateful. They have one but are in need of another!
