⚽️🟡 Mindwell Finish the Season in Style with Final Day Victory ⚫️⚽️
FC Mindwell signed off their debut Intermediate A campaign in impressive fashion with a well-earned victory over a competitive St Mary’s side from Portadown in their final fixture of the season.
Taking to the field for the last time this campaign, Mindwell were determined to finish on a positive note and wasted little time stamping their authority on the contest. From the opening whistle, the home side showed energy, purpose, and attacking intent, quickly putting St Mary’s under pressure.
The breakthrough came after just four minutes through the lively James McCann. Showing excellent determination and skill, McCann picked up possession on the edge of the area before weaving his way past defenders and confidently drilling a composed finish into the bottom corner to hand Mindwell an early 1–0 advantage.
Buoyed by the early goal, Mindwell continued to press and doubled their lead just five minutes later. The in-form Raymond Harpur was quickest to react after latching onto an incisive forward ball from Miceal Browne. Demonstrating sharp instincts and composure in front of goal, Harpur finished confidently to put the hosts firmly in control at 2–0.
To their credit, St Mary’s responded positively and gradually found their rhythm in the game. Their persistence paid off in the 25th minute when they pulled a goal back to narrow the deficit to 2–1, ensuring the contest remained competitive and giving the visitors renewed belief.
However, Mindwell responded in exactly the right manner and restored their two-goal cushion before the interval. Following a dangerous delivery from a corner, Neil Alderdice reacted quickest inside the penalty area to finish from close range, giving the home side a deserved 3–1 lead heading into the halftime break.
The second half proved to be a more closely fought affair, with chances at a premium but the intensity remaining high throughout. Both teams competed fiercely, flying into tackles and battling for every ball in what was an evenly contested period. Mindwell showed maturity and discipline in their game management, remaining organised defensively.
Although there were no further goals after the break, Mindwell saw out the game comfortably to secure a convincing and deserved victory — the perfect way to conclude what has been a memorable first season at Intermediate A level.
The result provides a strong finish to the campaign and highlights the progress made throughout the season. Credit must go to all players and staff for their commitment, effort, and hard work across the year.
