What an amazing evening at Lordswood RFC, for the 2025/26 Kent County RFU Volunteer Awards, recognising three of our very dedicated volunteers!

A huge congratulations and well done to Aran Sage who was awarded the Junior Rugby Volunteer Award, Izzi Cole for receiving the Young Persons Volunteer Award, and Tony Wood for being nominated as Volunteer of the Year!

What an achievement for all three of you!

Your hard work, dedication, and constant willingness to make rugby great for everyone involved is truly inspiring. The time and effort you each put in, often behind the scenes, helps our club and the wider rugby community thrive. These recognitions are thoroughly deserved, and we are incredibly proud to have you representing our club.

Thank you for everything you do for our club and our players. These awards are a reflection of the incredible impact you have on so many people. We are all extremely proud of you! πŸ‰πŸ‘

End of season adventure

So after an amazing season, the Ashford U12 Girls decided on one last outing. We all headed down to Action Watersports in Lydd to take on the huge inflatable assault course! It did not disappoint. We braved the cold water and as soon as we were in it, the temperature was forgotten.

Of course the first aim of the day was to push the coaches in as many times as possible. I think everyone pushed me in at least once! For some, jumping off the high platforms meant front flips and even back flips, for others it was facing and overcoming fears. Once the obstacle course was complete, we had the opportunity to have a go on what I can only describe as an inflatable ironing board, and the dreaded banana boat, where most participants were thrown off at some point.

I think it is fair to say that everyone had a fantastic time, the girls were amazing. After all the fun, it was time to visit the local chip shop, and then the park to refuel.
Congratulations to Pippa who faced her fears and overcame the high platform, Action Watersports awarded her a lovely changing robe. A massive thank you to all the parents and coaches and especially Action Watersports for a great day out.

WE’RE HIRING:-

Ashford Rugby Club is looking for a passionate and driven Women & Girls Rugby Lead to help shape the future of the women’s and girls’ game at the club.

Working closely with our Director of Rugby, Chris Dengate, this role will play a key part in delivering our long-term vision, including supporting the progression of players through Project 28 Rugby β€” our plan to transition players from junior rugby into the senior game.

With one of the largest girls sections in the country, we have strong foundations in place β€” now we’re focused on building a clear, sustainable pathway into senior women’s and university rugby and grow our women's squad competing in NC2.

The Role (Volunteer)

This is a voluntary leadership role with an estimated commitment of 3–5 hours per week, designed to fit around other commitments.

You will focus on three key areas:

- Player Pathway Development
Support the transition of girls into senior women’s rugby, aligned with Project 28 Rugby

- Coach Support & Alignment
Work with coaches across age groups to introduce simple, consistent ways of playing

- Retention & Experience
Help create an environment where players feel supported, motivated, and want to stay in the game

How You’ll Be Supported

You will:
- Work directly with the Director of Rugby to shape direction and priorities
- Be supported by an established coaching team across age groups
- Collaborate with the club committee and wider rugby leadership group

We’re Looking For Someone Who:

- Has coaching and/or leadership experience in rugby (qualifications desirable, not essential)
- Is passionate about developing female players and coaches
- Can organise, communicate and build positive relationships
- Wants to make a meaningful impact within a community club

What You’ll Gain

- A chance to shape one of the leading girls rugby sections in the country
- Leadership experience within a progressive club environment
- The opportunity to be part of a long-term player development vision through Project 28 Rugby
